AI gets the blame after TV4 loses The Challenge

TV4 has postponed the next season of The Challenge Sweden until 2027 after edited material was lost at production company Mastiff, with the broadcaster attributing the incident to human error following initial reports blaming AI.
The series had been scheduled to premiere on November 22. The original footage remains available, but the production must be re-edited because its backup failed.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet initially reported claims from sources that an AI agent given access to Mastiff’s server had deleted the edited season.
TV4 subsequently rejected that explanation, saying its investigation showed the loss resulted from “the human factor” at Mastiff rather than AI.
Programme director Mia Lindqvist said it was not a case of an AI agent acting independently.
“In this case, the big problem is that their backup didn’t work and that means they have to recut everything from scratch. The raw material is there, so it’s no problem, but of course it means we lose time,” she told Aftonbladet.
The forthcoming season is hosted by Ahmed Berhan. The Swedish adaptation of the competition reality format first aired on TV4 in 2024.
