TF1 says viewing hours for TF1+ have risen 30% year-on-year following the launch of its distribution partnership with Netflix more than three months ago.

The broadcaster said initial objectives had been exceeded, with growth across audience, content consumption and advertising. Nearly half of Netflix subscribers in France have watched at least one TF1+ programme since launch, according to the companies.

TF1+ programming is integrated into Netflix’s search and recommendation tools, alongside a dedicated section within the service.

Following full integration into those discovery tools, viewing of TF1 content among audiences exposed to it increased by 140% between July and August. This measures a different period and audience group from the broader 30% year-on-year increase in TF1+ viewing hours.

Titles reaching Netflix’s Top 10 have included Secret Story, Koh-Lanta All Stars, La Villa des Cœurs Brisés, La Cible and French national football team matches.

The companies also highlighted renewed interest in archive programming, including Une chance de trop, the Harlan Coben adaptation first broadcast in 2015.

“The success of our partnership with Netflix confirms the relevance of our strategy: by making TF1+ content accessible in a new environment, we are expanding its audience to new viewers and creating new opportunities for advertisers,” said Claire Basini, TF1 Group Deputy Managing Director in charge of B2C.

Basini said the partnership had also increased advertising campaign reach, although the announcement supplied no advertising revenue or reach figures.

Olivier Abecassis, Senior Director of Business Development at Netflix France, said the results demonstrated the value of combining Netflix’s discovery experience with TF1’s programming and the complementary catalogues.

The companies also reported that 87% of French respondents viewed the partnership as a good initiative and 79% considered it particularly practical. The announcement did not provide details of the survey methodology.
