Alternative SoftCam Manager v5.0 — Modified by iet5
Recently, a friend contacted me and asked me to update an old plugin called CCcam Info, with the aim of improving its functionality and compatibility with Enigma2 receivers, including both Dreambox and Open Source devices.
I started working on updating and improving the plugin. However, during the actual testing phase, I encountered some difficulties, especially since I had not used this type of plugin for quite some time.
To carry out the necessary tests, I needed to install a SoftCam Manager to manage and run softcams and their executable files.
Unfortunately, I encountered several issues, including:
- Crashes when pressing the Blue button on the remote control.
- Certain EPG functions stopped working and caused crashes when accessed.
After investigating these issues and performing several tests, I discovered that the SoftCam Manager I was using was responsible for these problems.
I then started testing several alternative softcam management plugins. After trying different options, I found that the most suitable one for my needs was:

However, since this plugin was quite old and had apparently not been updated since 2023, I decided to work on it, update its code, and introduce several improvements to make it more compatible with different Enigma2 receivers and images.
The development work included reviewing the source code, updating the user interface and screens, and implementing various improvements to enhance performance, stability, and compatibility.
Main Changes and Improvements
- User Interface Improvements: Updated and improved the plugin's interface and screens to provide a more organized and user-friendly experience.
- Improved Compatibility: Made the necessary modifications to support Dreambox and Open Source receivers running different Enigma2 images.
- Python Compatibility: Improved compatibility with Python 2.7 through Python 3.14.
- Performance and Stability: Reviewed and optimized the code, addressed several issues, and improved overall stability to reduce the possibility of crashes.
- Easy Path Management: One of the most useful features of this plugin is the ability to easily select, configure, and modify all required paths, including softcam executable paths and configuration file locations. This makes softcam management and operation much easier without having to manually edit paths.
- New Version Numbering: The modified releases will start from version 5.0 to avoid confusion with the original plugin versions.
Testing and Compatibility
The plugin has been successfully tested on the following images:
- Merlin — Dreambox receivers.
- Gemini — Dreambox receivers.
- OpenATV 8.0 — Open Source receivers.
The plugin worked properly during testing, and no issues were encountered.
