Sky’s live HDR and Sky Glass technology, BBC News’ Sofie automation project and the team behind Newsmax Ukraine were among those recognised at the RTS Technology Awards 2026.

Sky won Product or Technology of the Year for its “Sky Live HDR and Sky Glass” entry. The broadcaster also received a Highly Commended recognition in the Sustainability Impact category for its Sky Studios Elstree Sustainability Team.

BBC News was Highly Commended in the Product or Technology category for “Sofie: Reimagining TV Automation for BBC News”.

A Special Recognition Award went jointly to Newsmax, Newsmax Ukraine, Broadcast Solutions and nxtedition for establishing a new multiplatform news operation in Kyiv.

The project brought together newsroom, studio, production and distribution infrastructure to serve television and digital audiences. The award recognised the collaboration required to deliver the operation amid the challenges of wartime.

The winners were announced on October 22 at De Vere Wokefield Estate, with the ceremony hosted by BBC Technology and AI Editor Zoe Kleinman.

Kim Rowell, Chair of the RTS Technology Centre, said: “The standard of entries this year made the judging process incredibly difficult, and that was reflected not only in our winners but in the four entries our judges chose to Highly Commend.”

“These awards are about recognising the people and teams doing exceptional work across our industry, whether they are leading major projects, developing new technology, supporting colleagues behind the scenes or helping to shape what comes next.”

Other winners included ITN CTO Jon Roberts, named Inspiring Leader of the Year, and LIMITLESS Broadcast, which won Creative Innovation Project of the Year for its work on Henley Royal Regatta.

Evan Shapiro received the Outstanding Contribution Award, while Peter Taylor LVO was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for a career spanning major music, state and ceremonial broadcasts, alongside his work mentoring broadcast professionals.
