The HbbTV Association has announced 19 shortlisted entries for its 2026 awards, with Freely device certification, satellite-delivered applications and audience measurement among the technologies recognised.
The finalists were selected from 25 submissions, representing 16 companies and organisations across five categories. Winners will be announced in Barcelona on 18 November.
Two projects developed with Everyone TV are shortlisted for the HbbTV Enabling Technology Award. DTG Testing’s D-Book Freely IP-Only Test Suite supports testing of devices without a tuner, while Suitest is nominated for automated Freely OpApp certification.
They compete with 3Cat’s open-source Universal Mediasync companion application and Admongrel’s AdVantage, which delivers HbbTV content by satellite to households without an internet connection.
Satellite and IP integration also feature in the Application Innovation category. Eutelsat’s Sat.tv Connect combines HbbTV, DVB-I discovery and usage measurement for free-to-air satellite channels, while the HD+ TV App adds IP-only services to the satellite channel list.
Other application finalists include Mediaset España’s personalised channel recommendations, rbb/ARD’s personalised HbbTV launcher and ZDF’s Green TV-Buddy, which shows viewers their television’s power consumption and potential savings through ECO mode.
A new Audience Measurement & Analytics category has attracted shortlisted entries from Admongrel, TVA Group and TVekstra. These cover real-time audience measurement, measurement extended to SES satellites, and technology linking linear TV exposure with addressable advertising.
ATRESMEDIA, Mediaset España and TVekstra are shortlisted for Outstanding HbbTV Advertising Campaign. AGF Videoforschung, BCi Digital, Konodrac and TVekstra are nominated for the Rising Star Award.
“The sophistication, quality and innovative spirit of this year’s submissions impressed our review panel even more than in previous years,” said Vincent Grivet, Chair of the HbbTV Association.
The awards ceremony takes place on the opening evening of the 14th HbbTV Symposium and Awards, held on 18–19 November at the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza Hotel. The event is co-hosted by the HbbTV Association and Catalan public media organisation 3Cat.
