Netherlands media groups NPO, Talpa, and DPG Media are asking the government to take tougher action against illegal IPTV streaming services. According to the organisations, these services harm the legal offering and pose risks to users.
The organisations have jointly sent a letter to four ministers. Industry associations Streamingdiensten Nederland and NLConnect also signed the appeal.
They want the police and the justice system to give higher priority to the problem. Additionally, they call for cooperation between the government and businesses, better enforcement, and more information for consumers.
According to the media organisations, illegal IPTV services have grown into a professional and international revenue model. The bodies also warn against malware, harmful software that can infect devices, and fraud.
NPO, Talpa, and DPG Media claim they are losing revenue on their own streaming services as a result of the illegal offerings.
The organisations addressed the letter to the Ministers of Education, Economic Affairs, Health, and Justice. The Cabinet has not yet responded.
