Job cuts looming at Virgin Media O2
November 2, 2026

Virgin Media O2 is reportedly set to axe “thousands” of members of staff as it attempts to deal with mounting debt and tougher competition.

The telco has not finalised the number of roles to be cut but it is likely be a significant percentage of its 16,000-strong workforce, according to the BBC.

Virgin Media O2 has billions in debt on its balance sheet and is tackling both smaller altnets as well as established players such as BT, which has recently agreed to acquire TalkTalk in a deal which Virgin Media O2 vocally opposed.

The majority of the affected staff are said to be in roles that are not customer-facing and a number of senior leadership changes are already under way. Virgin Media O2 is also expected to review its use of contractors and suppliers in conjunction with the job cuts.

Virgin Media O2 will release its Q3 numbers on November 3rd.
