Help requested with the JTAG FTE application

While the execution of JTAG FTE V1.0.2 as the command:

C:\flaps -probeonly/skipdetect/instrlen:5/alienable/xeloa

I cann't read the flash of my STB U4111 (as Starsat 4200D)

Result got:

- EJTAG IMPCODE ................. only 0 (zero)
- EJTAG version.................. .. 1 or 2.0
- EJTAG implementation flag.. R4k DMA MIPS32 (R4k AOID_8 no DMA MIPS32 expected)

and just before the end messagen

*** REQUESTED OPERATION IS COMPLETE ***

I get:

*** Unknow or NO Flasf chip detected ***

instead

*** Found a SST39VF1681 2Mx8 BotB <2MB> Flash Chip ***

So I cann't do any other request (no -backup, no -erase, neither -flash) etc.

IS MY STB OUT OF WORK (DEAD?) ???????

Hi,

I got the answer from Algeria and only a change of the flash memory will be efficient. it's an EEPROM SST39VF1681

Caution :This problem came when I loaded a C serial firm instead B and on switch on appears ASH on the STB

FYI : C or B are issue of the CPU ALI M3329 B1 or C1 of the STB FTE Univers or Starsat ( mine Univers U4111 is equipped with a B serial)

I'd be surprised if you couldn't re-write the bootlolader using jtag.
What version of flaps are you using?. I think the latest is 1.4.
Have you tried using this switch /fc:64 to force the chip type?
More importantly have you double checked all your connections to the jtag and there are different versions of xeloa type jtag interface. Make sure that is wired correclty and that you have the jumper in place on the main board.

Here are some instructions I wrote elsewhere:-

You need to use a jumper on the correct pins (you may need to solder new ones) on the mainboard and correctly wired jtag connection to a simple five resistor (xeloa) jtag interface connect ot the PC parallel printer port.

Switch off the STB using the rear switch, fit the jumper and connect the jtag interface. Switch on the STB and then run flaps.exe using a batch file to start it with the required parameters.

eg to dump the bootloader use this in a file called "dump_bootloader.bat"

flaps -backup:bootloader /skipdetect /instrlen:5 /alienable /notimestamp /xeloa /fc:64
pause

After s few minutes you should have the dump.

To write the bootloader you need the file called "bootloader.bin" in the same directory as flaps.exe, then use this cmd line in a file called "write_bootloader.bat"

flaps -flash:bootloader /skipdetect /instrlen:5 /alienable /fast /xeloa

Hi 007.4,

If you read well my previous post you can see that I have a good dialog with the processor but this last cann't detect the Flash memory (EEPROM 39VF1681)!!

I used JTAG_FTE_V1_1_[1].0.2.zip if you think there is an other version able to solve my problem please attache it with your answer!!

I finaly succeed to reload my STB Univers U4111 (id. Starsat 4200D) using JTAG. It was a connecting problem of my cable du to a bad contact of the 25 pts connector.

Don't use flaps. Personnally I never was able to do something with it.
I work with " EJTAG_TT_1.0.6.12 " and is better than all others.
