Sogecable ‘will go for pay DTT’
Spain's pay DTT is still at a standstill until government changes DTT laws, and broadcasters have taken firm stances on whether they are in favour or not. But Eladio Gutiérrez, RTVE Digital's CEO (pictured, left) believes that some could change their minds.
Some broadcasters, in particular Mediapro's laSexta, are already preparing their own project and some others such as Mediaset's Telecinco and Sogecable are reluctant although in public they have recently declared they will go for the pay DTT model but not until the legal situation is clear.
For instance Telecinco doesn't want pay on DTT for the next five years in order to compete in equal conditions as the rest of the broadcasters because it considers Sogecable has more experience in the pay TV model than itself.
Carlos Abad, Sogecable's CEO, recently explained if pay DTT finally is approved his company has "enough" experience as to work on it.
Now national public broadcaster RTVE through its digital division RTVE Digital declared its conviction that Sogecable will join the pay DTT model in the end. So believes Eladio Gutiérrez, RTVE Digital's CEO. Nevertheless he admitted Sogecable is reluctant over an "inmediate" pay DTT implementation.
Gutiérrez underlined: "If in the end Spain's government goes for payment on DTT Sogecable could play an excellent role in this new business, since this company knows about pay TV more than anyone else in this country.”
