Spain’s TVE goes Hollywood

Spain’s public broadcaster Radio Television Espanola (RTE) is investing in more movie production. The intention is to produce 150 minute, two-part movies for showing on the broadcaster’s main channel, TVE1.

Javier Pons, a director of TVE, the broadcaster’s TV division, said that TVE would co-produce five two-part TV movies for broadcast next year. Pons was speaking at the Valladolid Film Festival. Other similar projects are being examined, said TVE’s director of fiction David Martinez.

These are not the first movies the broadcaster has produced but they represent a significant increase in commitment towards film, with Pons saying today’s multiple exposure and revenue-generating windows made such productions easier.
