What's the use of having a funcard anymore?

Hi everyone.
Can anyone tell me what the use is of having a fun card anymore?
Can it open anything that a cam can't? I used to program mine until last year and since then I have only been updating the cam on my Humax 5400.
Can I open anything with it?
Any information would be useful.
