France gets its own version of Freesat

Eutelsat Communications, the satellite provider based in Europe, has announced that it will be launching France’s first free Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) via the Atlantic Bird 3 satellite.
This new service will be known as “Fransat” and will be going live around June this year.

The service is expected to allow around one and half million homes in France, currently receiving analogue TV through the same satellite, to switch to digital satellite TV without the need to change their satellite dish.

The broadcaster has stated that most of the eighteen digital terrestrial television channels are already being transmitted through the Atlantic Bird 3 satellite.
Viewers will need the dish directed towards the satellite, and will need the Fransat digital decoder and the access card to be able to get access to this free service.
