Starhub launches catch-up TV

Singapore’s digital-cable operator Starhub has launched “catch-up TV” via its On Demand Channels and is promising a “start over” feature allowing the re-start of a programme during its telecast during the second half of the year.

The new services will only be available to subscribers using the company’s advanced set-top boxes, the Hubstation and the Hubstation HD DVR.

With the On Demand Channels, viewers can access a programme anytime up to seven days after it is first aired. Programming included will be that on Starhub channels TVBJ, VV Drama and E City, as well as sports channels BPL On Demand (English Premier League soccer) and WWE Series On Demand. The new services are free to subscribers of the associated linear channels, with TVBJ On Demand and VV Drama On Demand’s monthly fees of S$4.28 now scrapped.

Ong Bee Lian, Starhub’s vice-president of home solutions said: “StarHub is delighted to be the first in Southeast Asia to introduce the innovative ‘catch up’ concept. This is part of our ongoing efforts to offer more interactive features to benefit our customers. We are aware that many of our customers lead hectic lifestyles, so we want to make our quality content even more accessible to them. To give them greater value, we have decided not only to introduce two new On Demand Channels, but also to give TVBJ and VV Drama subscribers complimentary access to TVBJ On Demand and VV Drama On Demand respectively.”

The new ‘start over’ service will be available only on selected programmes on TVBJ, VV Drama and E City. Programmes including the feature will have a blue ‘Start over’ icon on the top left-hand corner of the screen.
