Bibel TV’s youth channel leaves Astra

German Christian channel Bibel TV (Bible TV) will terminate the satellite distribution of its youth channel [tru:] young television by September 30 at the latest. The contract with satellite operator SES Astra will not be extended due to financial reasons.
“The decision has not been made lightly. The fact is, in light of the economic crisis we have to reckon on receiving fewer donations so that the considerable costs involved with the distribution of a 24-hour youth channel are no longer secured,” said Bibel TV’s managing director Bernd Merz in Hamburg.
Bibel TV plans to hold onto the brand [tru:], incorporate selected programmes into its main channel Bibel TV and strengthen its presence on other distribution platforms such as the internet.
According to Merz, [tru:] and the promotion of Christian values amongst adults has proven to be well received and important. The channel will therefore endeavour to develop a concept that allows the continuation of these ideas.
