Cheaper by the Dozen
Growing pains? They've got twelve of them! In modern America, where the average family has 1.87 children, Tom Baker and wife Kate have decided that life is better, if not cheaper, by the dozen as they attempt to deal with their massive brood of twelve. College sweethearts Tom and Kate both dreamed of having both fulfilling careers and a huge family. But after they had a few kids, Kate gave up her career as a sportswriter, Tom abandoned his hope of becoming the coach of their alma mater's football team, and they moved their brood from the city to the country. Now, after 12 children and a happy life in rural Illinois, Tom has been offered the chance to live his dream and coach the Stallions. No sooner does the family pack up and move to Chicago to pursue Tom's dream job than Kate's ship comes in as well: a publisher has picked up her manuscript based on her experiences raising 12 children. Of course, there's a hitch. Kate has to go to New York for a few days, leaving Tom as the primary caregiver for his clan. With all hell breaking loose at home, Kate on the road, and Tom’s job on the line, the Baker family ultimately chooses not to have it all, but to love what they do have. Can Tom hold it together with his kids--who didn't want to move in the first place--pulling him one way and the university pulling him the other? Friends With Money
Olivia (Jennifer Aniston) lives in West Hollywood, an affluent section of Los Angeles. She's beautiful and smart, and accompanied by a series of well-to-do friends. Franny (Joan Cusack) is the first amongst them, a stay-home mom with a considerable fortune in the bank. She is a self-proclaimed philanthropist whose intentions, most likely, are motivated more by flaunting her wealth than caring who truly benefits from it. Christine (Catherine Keener) works at home alongside her husband David (Jason Isaacs) as a screenwriter. Collaboratively they have raked in big bucks over the years, though recently the duo has hit a creative slump. While they sit face to face each day, with their computers back to back, Christine and David spend more time fighting than writing. The last of Olivia's pals, Jane (Frances McDormand) is a snippy fashion designer experiencing a prolonged bout of depression. As a result (and to everyone's hygienic displeasure) she has vowed never to wash her hair. Her husband, Aaron (Simon McBurney) is similarly tuned into the fashion world; he's also incredibly effeminate, causing people to doubt his heterosexuality. It doesn't help that gay men hit on him. Aniston's character exists in the midst of all of this – an oddball who's not rich, sophisticated, or particularly glamorous in comparison to her three friends. At one time she taught at a prestigious school, but resigned after students began tossing quarters at her. Now she works as a maid while her boyfriend, Mike (Scott Caan) accompanies her to various homes, insistent upon having sex in each one. His 'service' of course means he gets a share of Olivia's earnings. When she's not cleaning homes or out with the girls she's rolling a joint. Yet something keeps Olivia bound to these eccentric folks, and they welcome her with equal fervor. Perhaps they see another shallow companion in the making – if only she had a husband of equal superficiality. Friends With Money is an independent film with a meager $6 million budget. It managed to earn more than $18 million however, deeming it a fairly impressive success. The soundtrack features topically appropriate songs by songstress Rickie Lee Jones. Rating: Rated R for explicit language, some sexual content, and brief drug use.

Relative Strangers
Dr. Richard Clayton thought he had the perfect life as a successful psychologist, who earns a respectable salary and with a fiancée Ellen, whom he adores. But at the age of 34 Richard discovers that he is adopted. He decides to hire a private detective who swiftly locates his actual parents and he quickly invites his biological mother and father to visit. Richard’s adopted parents Doug and Arleen Clayton provided their son with an upper class lifestyle, complete with inevitable snobbishness. The young doctor’s life is a dream until his alcoholic brother, Mitch makes it known that he is an adopted child. Richard’s first contact with his estranged parents is over the phone. Elated to finally talk to them he promptly invites the couple to stay at his luxurious home. When the doorbell rings and Richard lays his eyes upon Frank and Agnes Menure he is disappointed to say the least. Frank and Agnes are short and stocky and dressed in mismatched, tacky clothing. To top it off, Frank sports a blatantly obvious and horrible looking toupee. However looks are deceiving and Richard remains optimistic. Unlike their biological son the Menures are far from medical professionals. Rather than a large house they reside in a trailer park and are circus workers. To make matters worse their mannerisms are embarrassingly backward: they are loud, obnoxious, and crude. Richard, an anger management specialist, has his skills repeatedly put to the test as the Menures crash Richard’s book signing and trash his home after a wild party. But can Richard look past the Menures’ crude mannerisms and realize that, despite their flaws, they gave birth to a successful son? Or will this be their first and last encounter? This movie is rated PG-13 due to sexually related humor and language.

Revolutionary Road
Author Richard Yates penned his popular novel Revolutionary Road in 1961; immediately film studios were interested in adapting it to the big screen, though debates about the project's execution and profitability stalled its creation for decades. Once a screenplay had been developed in the 90s, an already ailing Yates deemed it unsuitable; his death soon thereafter lessened the prospects of a film adaptation even further. Fortunately, the writer's wife eventually agreed to a screenplay by Justin Haythe, one that she believed remained faithful to her husband's original work. Revolutionary Road features Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as Frank and April Wheeler, a thirty-something suburbanite couple from Connecticut. Both have forfeited their dreams and conformed to 50s American social norms, believing that happiness would subsequently follow. Instead their lives increased in monotony: April's acting ambitions are crushed, and Frank's job hawking office equipment leaves him angry and unfulfilled. The birth of two children completely destroys any hope that the couple had of pursuing unconventional paths in life. A glimmer of hope appears however when April suggests selling the couple's home, withdrawing their savings, and relocating to Paris. There she hopes to find work as a secretary or translator, while Frank takes time to search for a profession he truly enjoys. Although he is initially hesitant, Mr. Wheeler eventually agrees to the idea, devastating best friends Milly (Kathryn Hahn) and Shep Campbell (David Harbour). April's plans are halted when Frank receives a rewarding promotion at work, one that proves less tedious than his former routine. Infidelity eventually drives the couple even further apart, as both realize that they were in love with the prospects of a picturesque American life, but not each other. Revolutionary Road marks DiCaprio and Winslet's first pairing since 1997's Titanic, though this time in a vastly different dynamic. The picture was a critical and commercial success, earning a Golden Globe and three Oscar nominations. At the box office ticket sales totaled $75 million, effortlessly recuperating its $35 million budget. Its soundtrack features songs by The Ink Spots, The King Cole Trio, Art Blakey and many other popular 50s artists. Rating: Rated R for explicit language and some sexual content/nudity

The Family Stone
The Stones are a loving liberal household whose members congregate from all corners of the county each Christmas. Kelly is the patriarch of the family, a college professor who doesn’t mind sharing a joint with his filmmaking son, Ben. Sybil is an unconventional mother hiding a saddening secret from her offspring – though the children begin to prematurely sense her distress. Amy, the eldest daughter, is a schoolteacher and faithful listener to National Public Radio; she has met Meredith already and developed a negative opinion of her, which she relays to her family. Susannah is the youngest female sibling, an immature mother of a young girl named Savannah who is expecting to deliver another child soon. Thad is the other son: a deaf homosexual who is considering adopting a child alongside his African-American boyfriend Patrick. Meredith is a conservative businesswoman whose uptight ways immediately leave a bad taste in the liberal family’s mouths. As she struggles to win the Stones over, Meredith inevitably appears more awkward, becomes nervous, and fumbles her first meeting with Everett’s parents at each step. Bewildered, she summons her sister Julie to smooth things out and accompany her through the visit as Meredith opts to stay at a hotel rather than the Stones’. Everett and his family are shocked to meet Julie, Meredith’s seemingly opposite sibling who unlike her sister, fits in perfectly with the family – perhaps a little too perfect. As the visit passes each member of the family, as well as Julie and Meredith, laugh and cry until each ultimately finds happiness. About a Boy
A Ladies Man Finds New Meaning in Genuine Love Hugh Grant plays Will Freeman, a carefree thirty-something bachelor and admitted womanizer. Freeman’s profession is – nothing. Years ago his deceased father composed a cheesy, though incredibly popular Christmas song, and Will is able to sustain himself from its royalties alone. For recreation Will studies pop culture, lounges on his sofa watching television, purchases the latest CDs, and obsesses over his hairstyle. Freeman admits that he is not a sociable chap, and has absolutely no interest in forming long-term relationships. His aim with the opposite sex is simple: seduce her, sleep with her, and move onto the next one. With that in mind he is constantly scheming to meet new mates, and believes he has just invented an ingenious method to do so. After a fling with a single mother preoccupied by work, housekeeping, and babysitting with no time to waste in complicated relationships, Will assumes that all single moms are similar. In his quest for no strings attached sex he begins actively seeking out women at a support group for single parents. Soon he discovers his worst fear: that most single mothers are in fact desperately seeking a long term relationship, if for nothing else to find a father figure for their child. In order to join the support group and earn the sympathy of its female members, Will creates an imaginary 2 year old son: Ned, and sets his sights on Suzie, a fellow group member. Through Suzie he, much to his dismay at first, becomes entangled with suicidal mother Fiona Brewer and her 12-year-old son, Marcus. Marcus immediately becomes preoccupied with Will, initially for a seemingly unknown reason. Viewers soon learn, however, that Marcus believes Will is the perfect match for his depressed mother, and will stop at no length to pair the two. Each day Marcus visits the ladies man, pestering him to pursue Fiona and even attempts to use blackmail to do so. Reluctantly, Will becomes attached to the young boy, who seems mature beyond his years; the bachelor realizes that although the concept of marriage itself is not necessarily appealing, playing the role of a father is. This leads him to embark on his first long term relationship with Rachel, yet another single mother. In order to entice her, Will pretends that Marcus is his own son – a decision he would greatly regret as the relationship advances beyond his typical sexual encounters. Together with his child protégé, Will attempts to transform from a self-centered immature adult into a caring, thoughtful gentleman. Who knows, he may even save someone’s life along the way. “About a Boy” was both a critical and commercial success, earning over $130 million worldwide in addition to both an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination. This movie is rated PG-13 for brief strong language and some thematic elements.

With a female director, an all female cast and hundreds of female extras, The Women is a movie made by women for women and is about a tightly knit group of girlfriend’s lives as they each face their own unique set of trials and tribulations with not a single man seen throughout the entire film, an attribute famously unique to the 1939 original. Her husband, Steven seems to be an ideal companion; their relationship has survived more than a decade – a notable feat for a professional couple in the 21st century. While Steven’s affair is undoubtedly troubling for Mary, another betrayal wounds her with equal or greater pain. Mary ends their friendship without hesitation but Sylvie regrets her disloyalty and continues a motherly relationship with Mary’s daughter, Molly. Zoolander
A Top Model With 3% Body Fat And 1% Brain Activity Derek Zoolander is an effeminate, vain, and moronic fashion model. For years he has been unanimously recognized as the world’s top fashion model, however a new model named Hansel has arrived on the scene, pushing Zoolander out of the spotlight. Zoolander’s career takes a nosedive when journalist Matilda Jeffries publishes an expose on the flamboyant supermodel in Time magazine. Yet the worst is yet to come when, to Zoolander’s horror, Hansel replaces him as the world’s top model. Disgraced, Derek retires from modelling, leaves New York, and returns to his family of coal miners. Yet the flashy and fashion conscious ex-model has trouble meshing with his blue collar roots after years on the runway; Derek’s hard working, coal-shovelling relatives have little use for him and send him back to New York. Upon his return to the city Zoolander reconnects with his fierce critic Matilda Jeffries, who after some self-reflection, believes that she portrayed Derek unfairly in her article and wants to give him a second chance. Matilda, somewhat concerned for Zoolander’s safety trails him throughout his daily activities. While Derek’s fall from grace led to him being blacklisted from nearly every runway, fashion mogul Jacobim Mugatu shows a keen interest in revitalizing his career. Magtu’s obsession with Zoolander raises Matilda’s eyebrows; she suspects that the mogul may have an ulterior motive. Despite Matilda’s repeated attempts to find information regarding Magtu’s past, his life is a mystery; no one quite knows where he came from, or how he achieved such a high position in the fashion industry. The journalist’s suspicions are reinforced when she trails Derek to a spa, which is merely a decoy for the mogul’s brainwashing facility, and is attacked by Katinka Ingabogovinanana. After Derek remains missing for a week he finally reappears at his apartment. Matilda reveals to Zoolander that Matgu has brainwashed him in order to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia by proxy. Derek remains unconvinced until he is approached by renowned hand model J.P. Prewett who explains that the fashion industry dictates world politics, and has frequently used its models to assassinate heads of state. Advice from a legend such as Prewett convinces Zoolander. Now Hansel, Matilda, Prewett, and Zoolander must band together to prevent the Prime Minister’s death and to put a halt to the fashion industry’s evil grip on the world’s population. While the film’s cast is full of top actors, “Zoolander” also features a number of notable cameos by individuals such as Fabio, Lenny Kravitz, Paris Hilton, David Bowie, Lil’ Kim, Natalie Portman and many more. This movie is rated PG-13 due to sexual content and drug references.

Duane Hopwood
David Schwimmer plays Duane Hopwood, a struggling alcoholic whose addiction has taken over his life. When the father of two is arrested for driving while intoxicated, with his young daughter in the backseat, Duane is on a downward spiral that destroys both his career and marriage. With his license revoked, the shamed dad must pedal to work each day on bicycle, rain or snow. Worse yet, wife Linda, has filed for divorce and full custody of the children. The judge, taking into account Hopwood’s poor decision making the night of his arrest, in addition to his years of alcoholism, grants Linda both requests. Despite Duane’s faults, he is a genuinely loving husband and caring father, whose depression intensifies without the companionship of Linda or the kids. A resident of Atlantic City, he works at Caesar's Palace as a pit boss, overseeing dealers and mediating customer disputes. His supervisor, Carl is a fatherly figure with a good heart. However when Duane pacifies a customer’s complaint with the casino’s cash, Carl must reluctantly terminate his employment. This, inevitably, results in increased dependence on the bottle. He finds some solace in the companionship of Anthony, a former coworker and aspiring comedian. Approaching his 40s, the wannabe comic’s chances of stardom grow less likely by the day, and mom has finally decided her son must move out. With Hopwood strapped for cash, and Anthony in search of new accommodations, the two quickly become roommates. Duane’s less than ideal living arrangement and outright misfortune, of which he is solely to blame, fail to change his behavior. He continues to frequent the local bar, though he has found a new female acquaintance: Gina, a bartender who attempts to rehabilitate the wino. She is perhaps one of the few who can tolerate Hopwood’s relentless self-pity, as he laments his divorce, loss of child custody, and Linda’s intolerable new boyfriend, Rob. Next-door neighbors Fred and Wally appear sympathetic to Duane, inviting the lonely bachelor over for Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately their act of kindness invokes sadness, as he remembers his former family, and the joys of the holidays. Throughout all of this alcohol abuse is never romanticized, and the chances of Duane undergoing a miraculous recovery, as would happen in similar films, is doubtful. Nevertheless Duane Hopwood does contain moments of hope and laughter, yet never in exchange for the harsh realities of the protagonist’s disease.
