    Cheaper by the Dozen

Growing pains? They've got twelve of them! In modern America, where the average family has 1.87 children, Tom Baker and wife Kate have decided that life is better, if not cheaper, by the dozen as they attempt to deal with their massive brood of twelve. College sweethearts Tom and Kate both dreamed of having both fulfilling careers and a huge family. But after they had a few kids, Kate gave up her career as a sportswriter, Tom abandoned his hope of becoming the coach of their alma mater's football team, and they moved their brood from the city to the country. Now, after 12 children and a happy life in rural Illinois, Tom has been offered the chance to live his dream and coach the Stallions. No sooner does the family pack up and move to Chicago to pursue Tom's dream job than Kate's ship comes in as well: a publisher has picked up her manuscript based on her experiences raising 12 children. Of course, there's a hitch. Kate has to go to New York for a few days, leaving Tom as the primary caregiver for his clan. With all hell breaking loose at home, Kate on the road, and Tom’s job on the line, the Baker family ultimately chooses not to have it all, but to love what they do have. Can Tom hold it together with his kids--who didn't want to move in the first place--pulling him one way and the university pulling him the other? This movie is rated PG for language and some thematic elements.

In order to increase her chances, he sends her to do field work with the renowned but difficult cameraman, Pete. When she's on an assignment, Lanie runs into a homeless man, the prophet Jack, who makes three predictions: that the Seattle Seahawks will beat the Denver Broncos 19-13, that it will hail the following day, and that she'll be dead by next Thursday. When the first two predictions come true, Lanie re-evaluates her life and realizes she's missing out on the smaller things because of her ambition. Angelina Jolie is sexy, adorable, and whimsical in her first comedy role. This movie is rated PG-13 for sexual content, brief violence and language.

    Friends With Money

Olivia (Jennifer Aniston) lives in West Hollywood, an affluent section of Los Angeles. She's beautiful and smart, and accompanied by a series of well-to-do friends. Franny (Joan Cusack) is the first amongst them, a stay-home mom with a considerable fortune in the bank. She is a self-proclaimed philanthropist whose intentions, most likely, are motivated more by flaunting her wealth than caring who truly benefits from it. Christine (Catherine Keener) works at home alongside her husband David (Jason Isaacs) as a screenwriter. Collaboratively they have raked in big bucks over the years, though recently the duo has hit a creative slump. While they sit face to face each day, with their computers back to back, Christine and David spend more time fighting than writing. The last of Olivia's pals, Jane (Frances McDormand) is a snippy fashion designer experiencing a prolonged bout of depression. As a result (and to everyone's hygienic displeasure) she has vowed never to wash her hair. Her husband, Aaron (Simon McBurney) is similarly tuned into the fashion world; he's also incredibly effeminate, causing people to doubt his heterosexuality. It doesn't help that gay men hit on him. Aniston's character exists in the midst of all of this – an oddball who's not rich, sophisticated, or particularly glamorous in comparison to her three friends. At one time she taught at a prestigious school, but resigned after students began tossing quarters at her. Now she works as a maid while her boyfriend, Mike (Scott Caan) accompanies her to various homes, insistent upon having sex in each one. His 'service' of course means he gets a share of Olivia's earnings. When she's not cleaning homes or out with the girls she's rolling a joint. Yet something keeps Olivia bound to these eccentric folks, and they welcome her with equal fervor. Perhaps they see another shallow companion in the making – if only she had a husband of equal superficiality. Friends With Money is an independent film with a meager $6 million budget. It managed to earn more than $18 million however, deeming it a fairly impressive success. The soundtrack features topically appropriate songs by songstress Rickie Lee Jones. Rating: Rated R for explicit language, some sexual content, and brief drug use.

    Relative Strangers

Dr. Richard Clayton thought he had the perfect life as a successful psychologist, who earns a respectable salary and with a fiancée Ellen, whom he adores. But at the age of 34 Richard discovers that he is adopted. He decides to hire a private detective who swiftly locates his actual parents and he quickly invites his biological mother and father to visit. Richard’s adopted parents Doug and Arleen Clayton provided their son with an upper class lifestyle, complete with inevitable snobbishness. The young doctor’s life is a dream until his alcoholic brother, Mitch makes it known that he is an adopted child. Richard’s first contact with his estranged parents is over the phone. Elated to finally talk to them he promptly invites the couple to stay at his luxurious home. When the doorbell rings and Richard lays his eyes upon Frank and Agnes Menure he is disappointed to say the least. Frank and Agnes are short and stocky and dressed in mismatched, tacky clothing. To top it off, Frank sports a blatantly obvious and horrible looking toupee. However looks are deceiving and Richard remains optimistic. Unlike their biological son the Menures are far from medical professionals. Rather than a large house they reside in a trailer park and are circus workers. To make matters worse their mannerisms are embarrassingly backward: they are loud, obnoxious, and crude. Richard, an anger management specialist, has his skills repeatedly put to the test as the Menures crash Richard’s book signing and trash his home after a wild party. But can Richard look past the Menures’ crude mannerisms and realize that, despite their flaws, they gave birth to a successful son? Or will this be their first and last encounter? This movie is rated PG-13 due to sexually related humor and language.

    Revolutionary Road

Author Richard Yates penned his popular novel Revolutionary Road in 1961; immediately film studios were interested in adapting it to the big screen, though debates about the project's execution and profitability stalled its creation for decades. Once a screenplay had been developed in the 90s, an already ailing Yates deemed it unsuitable; his death soon thereafter lessened the prospects of a film adaptation even further. Fortunately, the writer's wife eventually agreed to a screenplay by Justin Haythe, one that she believed remained faithful to her husband's original work. Revolutionary Road features Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as Frank and April Wheeler, a thirty-something suburbanite couple from Connecticut. Both have forfeited their dreams and conformed to 50s American social norms, believing that happiness would subsequently follow. Instead their lives increased in monotony: April's acting ambitions are crushed, and Frank's job hawking office equipment leaves him angry and unfulfilled. The birth of two children completely destroys any hope that the couple had of pursuing unconventional paths in life. A glimmer of hope appears however when April suggests selling the couple's home, withdrawing their savings, and relocating to Paris. There she hopes to find work as a secretary or translator, while Frank takes time to search for a profession he truly enjoys. Although he is initially hesitant, Mr. Wheeler eventually agrees to the idea, devastating best friends Milly (Kathryn Hahn) and Shep Campbell (David Harbour). April's plans are halted when Frank receives a rewarding promotion at work, one that proves less tedious than his former routine. Infidelity eventually drives the couple even further apart, as both realize that they were in love with the prospects of a picturesque American life, but not each other. Revolutionary Road marks DiCaprio and Winslet's first pairing since 1997's Titanic, though this time in a vastly different dynamic. The picture was a critical and commercial success, earning a Golden Globe and three Oscar nominations. At the box office ticket sales totaled $75 million, effortlessly recuperating its $35 million budget. Its soundtrack features songs by The Ink Spots, The King Cole Trio, Art Blakey and many other popular 50s artists. Rating: Rated R for explicit language and some sexual content/nudity

    Good Advice

The film is about Ryan a hotshot broker living in New York City with his shallow girlfriend Cindy. One morning, he is playing golf with the owner of one of the biggest newspaper publishers of New York. He tells Ryan of a huge merger between his company, Simpson Inc., and a large drug corporation. Accordingly, Ryan seizes the opportunity and calls all his clients and informs them of the huge deal that is going to happen and they all place large amounts of money into the merger. However, the next day, Simpson reveals that there is not going to be a merger. Ryan loses most of his own, and much of his clients' money in light of the news. Simpson, then, tells Ryan that he screwed him over because Ryan was sleeping with his wife. Ryan, now near bankrupt, sells his possessions and moves in with Cindy. Ryan tries to get another job at another brokerage, but his license is revoked. Cindy, who works at a small newspaper as an advice columnist, tells him that she is leaving for Brazil with another man. Ryan lies to the editor Page and takes over the column, under Cindy’s name. He makes a real effort and begins giving good advice to the people writing in, and the column turns into a huge hit and Page's newspaper begins to sell more and more across the city. Ryan begins to develop feelings for Page, feelings which turn out to be mutual. However, things didn't go so well for Cindy, and she comes back into town. Simpson, who now wants Cindy's column for his own paper, is interested in buying. She moves to Simpson's company, but she fails to give the compassionate advice that Ryan was offering, and soon Simpson's stock plummets. In the end, Ryan and Page are engaged, and Ryan has since become a successful columnist in his own right. This movie is rated R for language and sexual content.

    The Family Stone

The Stones are a loving liberal household whose members congregate from all corners of the county each Christmas. Kelly is the patriarch of the family, a college professor who doesn’t mind sharing a joint with his filmmaking son, Ben. Sybil is an unconventional mother hiding a saddening secret from her offspring – though the children begin to prematurely sense her distress. Everett is their eldest son who intends to propose to his long term girlfriend Meredith at the annual holiday gathering. Amy, the eldest daughter, is a schoolteacher and faithful listener to National Public Radio; she has met Meredith already and developed a negative opinion of her, which she relays to her family. Susannah is the youngest female sibling, an immature mother of a young girl named Savannah who is expecting to deliver another child soon. Thad is the other son: a deaf homosexual who is considering adopting a child alongside his African-American boyfriend Patrick. Meredith is a conservative businesswoman whose uptight ways immediately leave a bad taste in the liberal family’s mouths. As she struggles to win the Stones over, Meredith inevitably appears more awkward, becomes nervous, and fumbles her first meeting with Everett’s parents at each step. Bewildered, she summons her sister Julie to smooth things out and accompany her through the visit as Meredith opts to stay at a hotel rather than the Stones’. Everett and his family are shocked to meet Julie, Meredith’s seemingly opposite sibling who unlike her sister, fits in perfectly with the family – perhaps a little too perfect. As the visit passes each member of the family, as well as Julie and Meredith, laugh and cry until each ultimately finds happiness. About a Boy

A Ladies Man Finds New Meaning in Genuine Love Hugh Grant plays Will Freeman, a carefree thirty-something bachelor and admitted womanizer. Freeman’s profession is – nothing. Years ago his deceased father composed a cheesy, though incredibly popular Christmas song, and Will is able to sustain himself from its royalties alone. For recreation Will studies pop culture, lounges on his sofa watching television, purchases the latest CDs, and obsesses over his hairstyle. Freeman admits that he is not a sociable chap, and has absolutely no interest in forming long-term relationships. His aim with the opposite sex is simple: seduce her, sleep with her, and move onto the next one. With that in mind he is constantly scheming to meet new mates, and believes he has just invented an ingenious method to do so. After a fling with a single mother preoccupied by work, housekeeping, and babysitting with no time to waste in complicated relationships, Will assumes that all single moms are similar. In his quest for no strings attached sex he begins actively seeking out women at a support group for single parents. Soon he discovers his worst fear: that most single mothers are in fact desperately seeking a long term relationship, if for nothing else to find a father figure for their child. In order to join the support group and earn the sympathy of its female members, Will creates an imaginary 2 year old son: Ned, and sets his sights on Suzie, a fellow group member. Through Suzie he, much to his dismay at first, becomes entangled with suicidal mother Fiona Brewer and her 12-year-old son, Marcus. Marcus immediately becomes preoccupied with Will, initially for a seemingly unknown reason. Viewers soon learn, however, that Marcus believes Will is the perfect match for his depressed mother, and will stop at no length to pair the two. Each day Marcus visits the ladies man, pestering him to pursue Fiona and even attempts to use blackmail to do so. Reluctantly, Will becomes attached to the young boy, who seems mature beyond his years; the bachelor realizes that although the concept of marriage itself is not necessarily appealing, playing the role of a father is. This leads him to embark on his first long term relationship with Rachel, yet another single mother. In order to entice her, Will pretends that Marcus is his own son – a decision he would greatly regret as the relationship advances beyond his typical sexual encounters. Together with his child protégé, Will attempts to transform from a self-centered immature adult into a caring, thoughtful gentleman. Who knows, he may even save someone’s life along the way. “About a Boy” was both a critical and commercial success, earning over $130 million worldwide in addition to both an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination. This movie is rated PG-13 for brief strong language and some thematic elements.

    The Women

With a female director, an all female cast and hundreds of female extras, The Women is a movie made by women for women and is about a tightly knit group of girlfriend’s lives as they each face their own unique set of trials and tribulations with not a single man seen throughout the entire film, an attribute famously unique to the 1939 original. The movie centers around Mary Haines, a successful clothing designer and happily married mother of an 11-year old girl. Her husband, Steven seems to be an ideal companion; their relationship has survived more than a decade – a notable feat for a professional couple in the 21st century. But Mary’s marital bliss comes to an abrupt end when one of her closest girlfriends, Sylvie discovers that Steven is having an affair with a stunning perfume spritzer named Crystal. Candice Bergen plays Mary’s mother, Catherine Frazier who advises her daughter not to confront her husband or his lover; despite Catherine’s advice, Mary eventually confronts both parties. While Steven’s affair is undoubtedly troubling for Mary, another betrayal wounds her with equal or greater pain. In a desperate attempt to rejuvenate her fledging career, her best friend provides a tabloid journalist with juicy details regarding Steven’s extramarital affair. Mary ends their friendship without hesitation but Sylvie regrets her disloyalty and continues a motherly relationship with Mary’s daughter, Molly. Mary’s other girlfriends include Edie, who is addicted to pregnancy and Alex, an alluring lesbian. With her friends’ moral support, and her mother’s economic backing, Mary’s misfortunes become the catalyst for personal freedom as she discovers her true calling in life. Simultaneously, Mary must not only resolve her conflicts with Steven and Sylvie, but also reach out to her emotionally abandoned daughter. “The Women” was a box office success grossing over $48 million worldwide. It is rated PG-13 for sex-related material, language, some drug use and brief smoking.

    Zoolander

A Top Model With 3% Body Fat And 1% Brain Activity Derek Zoolander is an effeminate, vain, and moronic fashion model. For years he has been unanimously recognized as the world’s top fashion model, however a new model named Hansel has arrived on the scene, pushing Zoolander out of the spotlight. Zoolander’s career takes a nosedive when journalist Matilda Jeffries publishes an expose on the flamboyant supermodel in Time magazine. Yet the worst is yet to come when, to Zoolander’s horror, Hansel replaces him as the world’s top model. Disgraced, Derek retires from modelling, leaves New York, and returns to his family of coal miners. Yet the flashy and fashion conscious ex-model has trouble meshing with his blue collar roots after years on the runway; Derek’s hard working, coal-shovelling relatives have little use for him and send him back to New York. Upon his return to the city Zoolander reconnects with his fierce critic Matilda Jeffries, who after some self-reflection, believes that she portrayed Derek unfairly in her article and wants to give him a second chance. Matilda, somewhat concerned for Zoolander’s safety trails him throughout his daily activities. While Derek’s fall from grace led to him being blacklisted from nearly every runway, fashion mogul Jacobim Mugatu shows a keen interest in revitalizing his career. Magtu’s obsession with Zoolander raises Matilda’s eyebrows; she suspects that the mogul may have an ulterior motive. Despite Matilda’s repeated attempts to find information regarding Magtu’s past, his life is a mystery; no one quite knows where he came from, or how he achieved such a high position in the fashion industry. The journalist’s suspicions are reinforced when she trails Derek to a spa, which is merely a decoy for the mogul’s brainwashing facility, and is attacked by Katinka Ingabogovinanana. After Derek remains missing for a week he finally reappears at his apartment. Matilda reveals to Zoolander that Matgu has brainwashed him in order to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia by proxy. Derek remains unconvinced until he is approached by renowned hand model J.P. Prewett who explains that the fashion industry dictates world politics, and has frequently used its models to assassinate heads of state. Advice from a legend such as Prewett convinces Zoolander. Now Hansel, Matilda, Prewett, and Zoolander must band together to prevent the Prime Minister’s death and to put a halt to the fashion industry’s evil grip on the world’s population. While the film’s cast is full of top actors, “Zoolander” also features a number of notable cameos by individuals such as Fabio, Lenny Kravitz, Paris Hilton, David Bowie, Lil’ Kim, Natalie Portman and many more. This movie is rated PG-13 due to sexual content and drug references.

    Duane Hopwood

David Schwimmer plays Duane Hopwood, a struggling alcoholic whose addiction has taken over his life. When the father of two is arrested for driving while intoxicated, with his young daughter in the backseat, Duane is on a downward spiral that destroys both his career and marriage. With his license revoked, the shamed dad must pedal to work each day on bicycle, rain or snow. Worse yet, wife Linda, has filed for divorce and full custody of the children. The judge, taking into account Hopwood’s poor decision making the night of his arrest, in addition to his years of alcoholism, grants Linda both requests. Despite Duane’s faults, he is a genuinely loving husband and caring father, whose depression intensifies without the companionship of Linda or the kids. A resident of Atlantic City, he works at Caesar's Palace as a pit boss, overseeing dealers and mediating customer disputes. His supervisor, Carl is a fatherly figure with a good heart. However when Duane pacifies a customer’s complaint with the casino’s cash, Carl must reluctantly terminate his employment. This, inevitably, results in increased dependence on the bottle. He finds some solace in the companionship of Anthony, a former coworker and aspiring comedian. Approaching his 40s, the wannabe comic’s chances of stardom grow less likely by the day, and mom has finally decided her son must move out. With Hopwood strapped for cash, and Anthony in search of new accommodations, the two quickly become roommates. Duane’s less than ideal living arrangement and outright misfortune, of which he is solely to blame, fail to change his behavior. He continues to frequent the local bar, though he has found a new female acquaintance: Gina, a bartender who attempts to rehabilitate the wino. She is perhaps one of the few who can tolerate Hopwood’s relentless self-pity, as he laments his divorce, loss of child custody, and Linda’s intolerable new boyfriend, Rob. Next-door neighbors Fred and Wally appear sympathetic to Duane, inviting the lonely bachelor over for Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately their act of kindness invokes sadness, as he remembers his former family, and the joys of the holidays. Throughout all of this alcohol abuse is never romanticized, and the chances of Duane undergoing a miraculous recovery, as would happen in similar films, is doubtful. Nevertheless Duane Hopwood does contain moments of hope and laughter, yet never in exchange for the harsh realities of the protagonist’s disease.

    Cadillac Records

If You Take The Ride, You Have To Pay The Price Cadillac Records is based on the true story of the original Chicago-based purveyors of electric blues, Chess Records. It is set in the early-‘50s to late-‘60s and depicts key musical figures at the crossroads between blues, rhythm & blues, and rock & roll. The film centers around two men: Leonard Chess, a Polish-Jewish nightclub owner; and Muddy Waters, a transplanted Mississippi sharecropper with sights set on musical stardom. After hearing Waters's electrified Delta blues during a tussle at his nightclub, Chess decides to pool his resources into releasing what were then called "race records." Soon a coterie of label talent, from Little Walter and Howlin' Wolf, to Chuck Berry and Etta James, help to propel the fledgling label to the top of the charts--with each hit-maker rewarded by Chess with a shiny new Cadillac automobile. While sometimes playing loose with some minor historical points, the film truly hits the mark with its attention to visual detail, from costumes and cars, down to vintage recording equipment, all of it is a feast for period buffs. But what truly makes the movie captivating are the exceptional musical performances of Beyonce Knowles (Etta James) and Mos Def (Chuck Berry), two of the finest musicians-turned-actors of their time. Ultimately, the movie’s most potent message may be the boundless ability that much of this music had in transcending the unsettling realities facing blacks of the time. From Payola (the practice of bribing disc jockeys to play "race records") and segregation, to white performers pilfering songs written by blacks, all of it is handled with admirable aplomb in this enjoyable, often edifying, film. This movie is rated R for pervasive language and some sexuality.

Nina (Toni Collette) and Constance (Natasha Richardson) are mourning the impending death of their mother, Ann (Vanessa Redgrave). As they sit by her bed, she begins to murmur the sentence, "Harris and I killed Buddy" in what the girls assume to be mere delirium. Yet as more time passes Ann reveals her past prior to birthing her daughters, and before her handful of failed divorces that both girls unhappily endured. In her youngest years, Ann (then portrayed by Claire Danes) was an aspiring singer hailing from New York City. At a best friend's wedding five decades ago she encountered Harris Arden (Patrick Wilson), a handsome son of a servant who recently earned his medical degree. At the time Ann had been in a relationship with Buddy Wittenborn (Hugh Dancy), who professed his supposed love for her since his college days. After drinking a bit too much champagne however, Buddy passionately kisses Harris and inadvertently reveals his homosexuality. Ann is crushed, feels misled, and shuns Buddy for the remainder of the night. That gives her time to become better acquainted with Harris. Immediately both sense a natural chemistry between them, which eventually leads to a sexual encounter that same day. As the two leave the wedding in search of privacy, an inebriated Buddy follows hoping to reconcile with Ann. Instead, he wanders into traffic and is killed by a car. Neither Harris nor Ann know of this until the next day, but both felt partially guilty for its happening. Nevertheless their relationship endured, even as Buddy and Ann became involved with other people. Eventually their affair had to end, but Ann has never forgotten Harris and lived a regretful and unfulfilled life without him. Constance and Nina are experiencing their own unique hardships that, depending upon their resolution, could lead to a life of happiness or one of misery. Can they learn from their mother's mistakes? Last Holiday

Emmy and Academy Award nominated star of blockbusters “Chicago” (2002), “Ice Age: The Meltdown” (2006), and “Bringing Down the House” (2003) Queen Latifah portrays Georgia Byrd, an average girl with inner-beauty and only three weeks to live. Georgia Byrd works at a high scale New Orleans department store selling kitchenware and preparing food samples for its customers. She is an aspiring cook who is addicted to the Food Network and loves watching superstar chef, Emeril Lagasse prepare dishes. When at home, she practices her culinary skills, recreating the delicious dishes featured on Food Network programs. Strangely, however, she never eats them. Extremely self-conscious regarding her weight, Georgia opts instead to eat a low fat, frozen dinner from Weight Watchers. She is frugal, sensible, sweet, single and to her dismay, dreadfully lonely. At work she drools over her coworker Sean. While both Sean and Georgia feel the attraction they are both too shy to articulate it. When it seems that the two are about to spark a relationship, Georgia bangs her head against an open kitchen cabinet, requiring medical evaluation. After receiving a CAT scan, Dr. Gupta (Ranjit Chowdhry) reveals that Georgia suffers from a rare neurological disorder, and that the blow to the head accelerated it. Subsequently, she has just three to four weeks to live; surgery could possibly save her life, but there are no guarantees – and more importantly, her insurance refuses to cover it. But it’s only when she’s about to die does Georgia really start to live and she quickly withdraws her life’s savings and heads to Grandhotel Pupp, a luxurious resort located in the Czech Republic. Pupp is home to one of her culinary idols, world-renowned Chef Didier (Gérard Depardieu). The Louisiana born newcomer soon becomes a popular fixture at the resort, lending her simple but direct advice to its patrons – including a self-help guru and the senator of her home state, who happens to be visiting with his mistress. Though terminally ill, Georgia lives life to its fullest. At the resort’s casino she collects a healthy sum during a game of roulette. She also catches the attention of Chef Didier, who is impressed by Georgia’s cooking skills and even allows her to prepare a few dishes in his kitchen – an honoring gesture. Despite her newfound fame, the lonely store clerk still yearns for those close to her – especially Sean. Just as Georgia attempts to return home an avalanche leaves her trapped inside Pupp; unbeknownst to her, she has a visitor immediately on the other side Last Holiday was nominated for two Teen Choice Awards.

Starring alongside Latifah is rap colleague LL Cool J who depicts Sean Williams, Georgia’s shy and handsome coworker who she secretly adores. “Last Holiday” (2006) is a remake of the identically titled British classic featuring Alec Guinness. . Its soundtrack features a number of soul classics by the likes of Marvin Gaye, The Staples Singers, Isaac Hayes, and many more. It is rated PG-13 for some sexual references with a runtime.

Rating: Rated PG-13 for some thematic elements, sexual material, a brief accident scene, and explicit language.

Tommy Lee Jones plays Roland Sharp, a no nonsense Texas Ranger, who along with his partner Maggie Swanson are hot on the trail of Morgan Ball, a fugitive crime boss. With the assistance of an FBI agent, and some involuntary information from crooked minister Percy Stevens, Roland determines the whereabouts of Morgan, resulting in a violent shootout that claims the life of Roland’s partner Swanson. Morgan’s accomplice, unbeknownst to Roland, is FBI agent Eddie Zaine, who is present during the killing but claims no knowledge of the assailant – a statement that is later revealed to be false. Luckily, however, a group of sexy University of Texas cheerleaders witnessed the attack from their locker room window. While this is good news for Roland, it is bad news for the cheerleaders, who Morgan and Zaine now intend to murder. To protect the girls Roland goes undercover as their assistant cheerleading coach, subsequently moving into their sorority house to guard over them. Stereotypically ditsy, the girls are unhappy with Roland’s strict demands especially when he seizes their cell phones, commands them to wear less revealing clothes and instates a curfew, effectively putting them under house arrest and temporarily destroying their ever-important social lives. Of course the girls manage to evade Roland’s tactics, though not without consequence: they soon discover that their lives are truly in danger, and Roland is not merely trying to ruin their fun. After their van is blown up, nearly killing the cheerleading squad, the ranger starts bonding with the ladies, enjoying a facial, manicure, and even volunteering to purchase feminine products for them while shopping for groceries. Meanwhile Barb develops a crush on Roland, though he is more interested in hooking up with her English teacher, Molly, and the girls are eager to assist. The picture’s soundtrack features quintessential sports anthems by the likes of 2 Unlimited and C+C Music Factory, in addition to senseless favorites such as Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” and Abba’s “Dancing Queen.” “Man of the House” is rated PG-13 for violence, sexual content, crude humor and a drug reference.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy

It's the early 1970s and the local anchorman is not only a source of news but a revered local hero. In San Diego, Ron Burgundy, a mustachioed bachelor with a taste for scotch, unparalleled passion for the jazz flute, and a near-telepathic connection with his spirited mutt, Baxter, is that man. Rounding out Ron's testosterone-heavy news team are his close friends--cologne-obsessed man-on-the-street Brian Fantana, sports reporter Champ Kind, and mentally challenged weatherman Brick Tamland. Their male camaraderie is challenged, though, when producer Ed Harken, pressured by changing times, brings the first female reporter, ambitious Veronica Corningstone, to the team. Ron finds his chauvinistic ideals compromised further when he starts falling in love with her. Memoirs of a Geisha

The movie follows the life of Chiyo Sakamoto, a young girl abandoned by her parents and forced by circumstance to transform herself into a geisha. Traditional Japanese geishas are women who perform music, provide conversation, and dance for groups of men. They should not, however, be confused with prostitutes since no sexual acts are involved. Chiyo was born in the years preceding World War II into a struggling family; her parents were unable to support their new daughter, and subsequently sold Chiyo to the owner of a geisha house. There Chiyo serves as a pseudo-slave to Mother until she compensates for the cost of her purchase. Life in the geisha house is not easy and, at the tender age of 9, her future seems bleak. One day sadness overwhelms Chiyo as she roams the city’s streets. A businessman referred to as The Chairman notices her, and attempts to console the crying girl by buying her some shaved ice. While with Chiyo The Chairman notices her beautiful bluish-gray eyes; this sight is implanted in his mind, and for years he never forgets their uniqueness. The Chariman’s random act of kindness deeply touches Chiyo’s heart. Though she resided at a geisha house, she was not necessarily expected to become one herself. This changed after meeting the Chairman, and the young girl devotes her time to becoming a geisha, hoping to one day reunite with the kind man. Soon after making her decision Chiyo is taken under the wing of Mameha, a famed geisha who renames the child Sayuri Nitta. Sayuri excels in her studies of music, dance, art, and conversation. Still, she faces fierce competition from her heartless rival, Hatsumomo. At the same time she battles with traditional teachings, which forbid a geisha from falling in love with a client – in this case The Chairman. “Memoirs of a Geisha” performed remarkably well in theaters across the globe, earning a total of $162 million. Its soundtrack features the work of cellist Yo Yo Ma and is composed by the legendary John Williams. The picture earned 3 Oscars and a Golden Globe. Save the Last Dance

Sara Johnson is a hopeful ballet dancer aspiring to attend Juilliard School, a prestigious performing arts conservatory. After years of practice Sara lands an audition for the school and gives it her utmost effort. However rather than joy, her big night ends in tragedy and despair: Sara not only loses a great academic opportunity, but also her dear mother. Afraid of missing Sara’s pivotal performance, her mother sped recklessly to the event, crashing and subsequently dying due to fatal injuries. The accident deeply scarred Sara. In some respects she felt responsible for the death, since her mother risked loss of life just to please her daughter. Yet there is no doubt a sense of frustration as well. As the lone, successful parent of the house, the matriarch’s carelessness results in a situation far more devastating than a missed recital. No longer able to rely on her mother for inspiration, Sara forfeits dancing for good – or so she thinks. Not only did Sara lose a parent, but she also lost her comfortable suburban lifestyle. The teenager’s father, Roy Johnson, left the household years ago and relocated to a rundown apartment in the south side of Chicago. While she has no particularly harsh feelings for Roy, she is not exactly close to him either, especially since he is gone most of the time. Mr. Johnson is a lifelong, struggling jazz trumpeter who makes a living at local clubs during the evening and night; consequently he has little time to converse with his daughter. Yet a change in location is not the only burden Sarah must endure. As a white girl living in a predominately black neighborhood she finds it difficult to blend in at school. In spite of this she eventually befriends Chenille Reynolds, and more importantly her brother, Derek. Derek and Sara initially bond over a mutual love of dance, however with the boy’s help she begins to reconsider her departure from ballet and eventually starts preparing for second audition at Juilliard. It is during Derek and Sara’s practice sessions that both discover their love for one another. He supports Sara in her dream to attend Juilliard, while she encourages him to study hard and gain acceptance to Georgetown Medical School. She also learns a few things about dancing from Derek, who introduces the prude classical dancer to the more flavorful rhythms of Hip-Hop. The couple’s relationship is not without its controversy and complications. As a highly successful and intelligent black teenager Derek is a hot commodity amongst the school’s black females, who are angered that he has chosen a white girl instead of them. He must also fight against street temptations when a best friend needs his help in a neighborhood rivalry. Will he forfeit a shot at medical school to participate in a drive by? At the same time Sara must decide if she can deal with the pressures of an interracial relationship, and whether her presence is hurting Derek rather than helping him. Kung Fu Panda

It's the story about a lazy, irreverent slacker panda, named Po, who is the biggest fan of Kung Fu around...which doesn't exactly come in handy while working every day in his family's noodle shop. Unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po's dreams become reality when he joins the world of Kung Fu and studies alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five -- Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and Monkey -- under the leadership of their guru, Master Shifu. But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat. Can he turn his dreams of becoming a Kung Fu master into reality? Po puts his heart - and his girth - into the task, and the unlikely hero ultimately finds that his greatest weaknesses turn out to be his greatest strengths. One of the finest animated films released under the Dreamworks banner, Kung Fu Panda deftly avoids many of the pitfalls of the genre, juggling action, heart, and humor in a highly entertaining way. While Jack Black (in endearingly restrained mode), Hoffman, Kim, and McShane voice their characters with verve, the real stars of the movie are directors Mark Osborne and John Stevenson and their animators, who lovingly depict ornate Chinese chambers and vast mountainous vistas, as well as blazing kung fu battles. A movie with remarkably wide appeal, Kung Fu Panda delivers on its quirky, high-concept title with gleeful aplomb. This animated feature is rated PG.

    The Stepford Wives ( 2004 )

What Lies Beneath Is the Making of Nightmares “The Stepford Wives” novel and its first film adaptation was a product its era, heavily influenced by the rapidly changing status of women in the United States, in addition to the popularization of feminist theory in academia, politics, and entertainment. The wives of Stepford represented the first generation of liberated women, who were not merely housewives subservient to their husbands, but breadwinners in their own right. While women in the 1975 adaptation were up and coming executives with jealous husbands, Oz’s modern take portrays the wives as already successful, wealthy executives, who outshine their husbands economically and in many cases intellectually. Joanna Eberhart is a successful television producer who suffers a nervous breakdown after losing her highly lucrative job. Joanna and her husband, Walter decide to relocate to the gated, seemingly perfect suburb of Stepford. Prior to Joanna’s firing, Walter worked underneath his wife for the same television station; out of respect (and hinting to the household hierarchy) Walter retires in unison with Joanna’s dismissal. Joanna and Walter are somewhat shocked by their new neighbors, all of whom seem to resemble the 1950s, American nuclear family with vomit-inducing accuracy. Each woman, at all times is outfitted in a beautiful dress; when they are not exercising in the gym, they are cooking deserts in the kitchen; at all times they are ready and willing to fulfill their husbands’ sexual desires, even at 3 in the afternoon. Interestingly none of the families seem to be employed, yet they all live lavishly with unlimited amounts of cash. There is something strange about the men as well. When the husbands are not making love to their wives or eating their extravagant meals, they are at the neighborhood men’s club not only joking and playing sports, but also participating in something a bit more sinister. Joanna is not the only member of the community who feels awkward. Novelist Bobbie Markowitz and gay neighbor Roger Bart fail to meet Stepford’s societal norms: neither wears fancy clothing, works out, nor obsesses over pleasing their lovers. One day, when Bobbie transforms into a standard Stepford wife, Joanna is forced to investigate the inner workings of this frighteningly perfect suburb. Like its 1975 counterpart, 2004’s “Stepford Wives” utilizes its plot to eventually put forth a larger social message: that perfection, especially other individuals’ perceptions of it, are dehumanizing and very far from attractive in the long run. This movie is rated Rated PG-13 for sexual content, thematic material and language.

While becoming a single parent at any age is difficult, it was especially troublesome for Morrie, who raised Ida and Jay while completing an undergraduate and graduate degree. With Jay's homecoming Ida quickly follows, much to the chagrin of Betty who is already overwhelmed by the former's presence. For years Morrie has successfully kept his turbulent past and dysfunctional siblings separate from his professional life. With his brother and sister present 24 hours a day however, the professor may lose his cool and an impeccable reputation in the process. Despite Jay and Ida being a burden, Morrie does truly love both -- and in the end struggles for their well being not just his own. Often transparent and rarely likeable, Ellie is an all too-realistic example of many striving actors. The Spiderwick Chronicles

After his parents underwent a turbulent separation, Jared Grace (Freddie Highmore) and mom Helen (Mary-Louise Parker) left their native New York and moved to her deceased father's dilapidated mansion. Once property of her aunt, Helen inherited the home but had no use for it until recently. It needs some work, but is suitable to live in. Jared is not very excited about relocating to the Spiderwick Estate and would prefer New York City's fast-paced environment and the company of his father. Instead his twin brother Simon (also portrayed by Highmore) and fencing-obsessed sister, Mallory (Sarah Bolger) join him. Shortly after arrival Jared and his siblings discover an old fashioned dumb waiter. None of the kids are sure exactly where it goes, and neither Simon nor Mallory are courageous enough to find out. Jared, on the other hand, enthusiastically jumps onto the small elevator and rides it to its destination. It turns out that the shaft is a pathway to their grandfather's hidden study and, judging by the room's appearance, no one has entered it in years. Jared explores the room and notices an intriguing book with a note affixed, warning potential readers not to open it. Like any inquisitive young boy he immediately rips the note off to take a peak. With the warning removed the title is revealed: A Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around, a guidebook written by Jared's granddad, Arthur Spiderwick (David Strathairn) prior to his disappearance 80 years ago. Unwittingly, Jared has just removed the guide from its protected place and initiated a battle between the seen and unseen. Amongst the unseen are goblins, ogres, and trolls with varying shapes, sizes, and dispositions. Some like Thimbletack (Martin Short) are harmless and good-natured. Others, namely Mulgrath (Nick Nolte) and his goblin soldiers are pure, unadulterated evil. For years Mulgrath dreamed of world domination. Without Grandfather Arthur's field guide, however, the ogre has never possessed the knowledge necessary to do so. Now only one young boy prevents the ogre from moving forward, and he is incapable of defending the book alone. But with a little help from Helen, Simon, Mallory and his invisible friends Jared might just save the world after all. The Spiderwick Chronicles is based upon the identically titled series of children's books penned by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. At the box office the picture garnered close to $163 million in ticket sales internationally; DVD and Blu-ray sales were similarly brisk and earned an additional of $27 million of revenue. With both figures combined the film recuperated twice its $90 million production cost. Rating: Rated PG for scary creature action and violence, peril, and some thematic elements.

    The Fountain

The Fountain focuses on the complications of love and mortality, as six different characters from three separate eras attempt to cure the ultimate disease, death itself. The six roles are not entirely independent however: the leading male and female in each period is an extension of a single, eternal search for everlasting romance. In fact, the male and female characters’ names respectively remain similar in each stage of the film; likewise, the same actors, Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz portray the two primary lovers for each generation. First viewers are transported to 16th century Spain, where Tomas is a solider fighting for Queen Isabella against her rival, Silecio during the Spanish Inquisition. Despite Silecio’s fierceness, Tomas positions himself to seamlessly assassinate the Queen’s foe. Before he does so, however, a lower officer delivers a message from Isabella, commanding him to begin another mission instead. Tomas’ new mission requires him to travel to Central America, then home of the ancient Mayans. There, he will use a map provided by Isabella to locate the Tree of Life – which is the key to immortality. With it, the Queen can not only defeat Silecio, but also hold her throne indefinitely. The film’s second story takes place in contemporary times. Tommy’s interest in discovering a cure is motivated by his own wife’s battle with the disease, and his dream of saving her from an untimely death. Lastly viewers are taken approximately a half-millennium into the future, where Tommy is now simply Tom – an astronaut. In his ship he keeps the Tree of Life, slowly consuming its sap to stay alive. He remains in search of his deceased wife and refuses to accept the necessity of death. By the picture’s end, however, Tom will realize that death is not an end, but a new beginning. The Fountain focuses on the complications of love and mortality, as six different characters from three separate eras attempt to cure the ultimate disease, death itself. The six roles are not entirely independent however: the leading male and female in each period is an extension of a single, eternal search for everlasting romance. What Just Happened

Ben (Robert De Niro) is a renowned Hollywood producer struggling to get his upcoming film, 'Fiercely' past studio execs and onto the big screen. During a test screening audiences were extremely troubled by the picture's closing scene, one in which the lead antagonist (Sean Penn, as himself) and his dog are shot – a supposed carnal sin amongst filmmakers that usually results in a work's critical and commercial failure. Ben and his cunning British director, Jeremy Brunell (Michael Wincott) thinks otherwise however, and pray that the movie's final cut can evade the studio's potentially unmerciful editing. In the meantime Ben is just a week away from filming his latest project, featuring action superstar Bruce Willis. Much to Ben and the studio's chagrin, Willis has developed an affinity for facial hair, and insists upon sporting his unkempt beard on celluloid. The picture's financial backer insists that he shave, or else the project will be canceled. After the leading man sacked his agent, Dick Bell (John Turturro) for advising him to comply, Ben walks on eggshells while attempting to change Willis' mind, but he only has a short time to do so. Juggling the aforementioned conflicts is trouble enough, but Ben faces further devastation upon discovering that his ex-wife, Kelly (Robin Wright) has shacked up with screenwriter Scott Solomon (Stanley Tucci). Coincidentally, Ben is currently producing a film based upon Scott's screenplay. In parallel he struggles with a daughter from yet another marriage, Zoe (Kristen Stewart) whose personal problems could be copied verbatim from an episode of Beverly Hills 90210. Amidst all of this What Just Happened pokes fun at life and business in Tinseltown, simultaneously critiquing its money hungry culture, which oftentimes stymies artists' creative output and fosters an environment ripe with dysfunction. A Cinderella Story

Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) lived the perfect Californian life. Her father, Hal (Whip Hubley) owned and operated a popular sports restaurant and loved his daughter dearly. Suddenly, however, Hal married Fiona (Jennifer Coolidge of American Pie notoriety), a superficial, cold-hearted woman with two children from a former marriage: Brianna (Madeline Zima) and Gabriella (Andrea Avery). Rather than embrace their new stepsister, Fiona's children became Sam's toughest adversaries. At school Brianna and Gabriella joined other students who mocked their stepsister, attempting to win the cool kids' admiration. Hal loved his daughter unconditionally however, even if Fiona was indifferent, and Sam managed to find solace in her father's presence. That ended abruptly though when Hal perished during an earthquake. Shortly after her husband's death Fiona remodeled the restaurant, replacing its sports motif with buckets of pink paint, essentially transforming it into a tacky teen hangout akin to 90210's Peach Pit. While profits from the diner allowed Fiona, Brianna, and Gabriella to live comfortably, it was at the sole expense of Sam, who labored both day and night as a waitress at the establishment. Due to Sam's non-stop work schedule at the restaurant, schoolmates nicknamed her 'Diner Girl.' Life outside of the diner was equally displeasuring. At home Sam reluctantly completed her stepsisters' homework and household chores – often at Fiona's insistence. To escape, she visited the local library and browsed the Internet, eventually meeting a local boy in a chat room. 'Nomad' refused to reveal his true identity, but described himself as an introspective guy pressured by his father and peers to personify the typical jock. And he did. Both teens were living in a world constructed by others, rather than themselves. Nomad and Sam eventually agree to meet at an upcoming school dance, in the middle of the gymnasium at 11 o'clock. The later wears a disguise; the former goes as is. To both Sam's delight and horror the mystery man is Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray), the school's star quarterback and renowned ladies man. But before Austin can discover Sam's true identity she flees, convinced that the football champ will reject her. Can true love overpower peer pressure? A Cinderella Story earned more than $70 million at the box office, effortlessly recuperating its budget of $19 million. The picture earned two Teen Choice Awards in addition to eight other nominations. Its soundtrack, featuring tracks by Duff, the Goo Goo Dolls, and Mya reached number nine on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Rating: Rated PG for mildly explicit language and innuendo.

Beverly Hills seductress and career divorcee Marylin Rexroth is a greedy, yet sly gold digger with a highly successful track record. While Miles Massey is a divorce attorney whose renowned prenuptial agreements are airtight. Massey’s exemplary marriage contracts have never been disputed in court; in fact, they are considered nearly perfect, and used as study material at Harvard Law School. Although Massey has experienced unprecedented success throughout his career he refuses to fall victim to his own complacency. After countless legal victories, travels to various parts of the world, and fulfilling his material desires Massey longs for reinvigoration; he needs a new challenge, something that will reinforce his self-worth. The challenge he seeks arrives in the form of a new client: Rex Rexroth. Rex is (unfortunately for him) the husband of Marylin Rexroth, who looks to divorce Rex after her private investigator, Gus Petch breaks into a hotel room and discovers her husband committing lewd acts with an unknown blonde. Luckily for Marylin, Gus captured the entire incident on videotape, and she believes her visual evidence will guarantee a settlement in her favour. Soon after the expose Mr. Rexroth seeks the counsel of Massey, who enthusiastically accepts the case and guarantees Rex a victory – no small feat considering that video evidence exists of his client’s affair. Yet this is precisely the challenge Massey has been seeking, and defeating Marylin will help him escape the shadows of middle-aged gloom. First, Massey meets with Freddy Bender, Mrs. Rexroth’s lawyer in an attempt to reach a settlement. Naturally, Marylin is convinced that she will usurp her husband in court once the video is presented, and feels no need to compromise. Massey, who is fascinated by Marylin accompanies her to dinner one evening, gathering as much information as possible. Meanwhile, Gus – formally contracted by Mrs. Rexroth, is now working for Massey, secretly photographing pages from her private diary. When the couple’s court date finally arrives Massey is prepared for victory. Cutting quickly to the chase, Massey calls Heinz, the Baron Krauss von Espy to the stand. Heinz reveals to the court that several years prior to the Roxroths’ marriage, Marylin sought his assistance in finding, “a husband who could be easily manipulated.” With this shocking revelation the case promptly ends in Rex’s favour, and Massey has triumphed once again. Yet the battle has not ended, unbeknownst to Massey. Marylin reappears soon after her defeat and seeks his assistance in drafting a new prenuptial agreement, this time with oil-rich husband Howard D. Doyle. Predictably, the marriage ends in a quick annulment; unpredictably, Massey becomes her new marital target and the undefeated attorney may soon take on a most unwelcome challenge. The film’s soundtrack features classics from Simon and Garfunkel, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, and many more. This movie is rated PG-13 for sexual content, language and brief violence.
