    Little Nicky

When your mother is an angel and your father is the devil, life can be really confusing. For Little Nicky, it just got a whole lot worse. His two evil brothers have just escaped from Hell and are wreaking havoc on an unsuspecting earth. Having been the "Prince of Darkness" for ten thousand years, Satan assembles his sons to decide which of them will succeed him, but instead he keeps the throne for himself. Angered by this decision, Adrian and Cassius go to Earth to create a new Hell by possessing religious and political leaders in New York City. As they leave, they freeze the entrance to Hell, preventing more souls from entering and causing Satan's body to begin decomposing. To stop Adrian and Cassius, Satan sends Nicky to Earth with a silver flask that traps whoever drinks from it inside. At first, Nicky has trouble staying alive on Earth. He is killed several times, landing in Hell and returning to New York each time. While learning how to eat and sleep, he meets a talking bulldog named Mr. Beefy, rents an apartment with an actor named Todd and falls in love with a design student named Valerie. Nicky's first encounter with his brothers occurs when Adrian sees him with Valerie, takes mental control of his body and makes him scare her away. Then Nicky sees Cassius on television, possessing the referee of a Harlem Globetrotters game. When he goes to the court and tricks Cassius into the flask, Satanist metalheads John and Peter are so thrilled with his performance that they become his devoted fans. That evening, Nicky tries to apologize to Valerie. The meeting goes badly at first, but she accepts him after he explains who he is and why he is on Earth. Can Nicky find his inner evil in time to save the world? This movie is rated PG-13 for crude sexual humor, some drug content, language and thematic material.

    Last Holiday

Emmy and Academy Award nominated star of blockbusters “Chicago” (2002), “Ice Age: The Meltdown” (2006), and “Bringing Down the House” (2003) Queen Latifah portrays Georgia Byrd, an average girl with inner-beauty and only three weeks to live. Starring alongside Latifah is rap colleague LL Cool J who depicts Sean Williams, Georgia’s shy and handsome coworker who she secretly adores. “Last Holiday” (2006) is a remake of the identically titled British classic featuring Alec Guinness. . Georgia Byrd works at a high scale New Orleans department store selling kitchenware and preparing food samples for its customers. She is an aspiring cook who is addicted to the Food Network and loves watching superstar chef, Emeril Lagasse prepare dishes. When at home, she practices her culinary skills, recreating the delicious dishes featured on Food Network programs. Strangely, however, she never eats them. Extremely self-conscious regarding her weight, Georgia opts instead to eat a low fat, frozen dinner from Weight Watchers. She is frugal, sensible, sweet, single and to her dismay, dreadfully lonely. At work she drools over her coworker Sean. While both Sean and Georgia feel the attraction they are both too shy to articulate it. When it seems that the two are about to spark a relationship, Georgia bangs her head against an open kitchen cabinet, requiring medical evaluation. After receiving a CAT scan, Dr. Gupta (Ranjit Chowdhry) reveals that Georgia suffers from a rare neurological disorder, and that the blow to the head accelerated it. Subsequently, she has just three to four weeks to live; surgery could possibly save her life, but there are no guarantees – and more importantly, her insurance refuses to cover it. But it’s only when she’s about to die does Georgia really start to live and she quickly withdraws her life’s savings and heads to Grandhotel Pupp, a luxurious resort located in the Czech Republic. Pupp is home to one of her culinary idols, world-renowned Chef Didier (Gérard Depardieu). The Louisiana born newcomer soon becomes a popular fixture at the resort, lending her simple but direct advice to its patrons – including a self-help guru and the senator of her home state, who happens to be visiting with his mistress. Though terminally ill, Georgia lives life to its fullest. At the resort’s casino she collects a healthy sum during a game of roulette. She also catches the attention of Chef Didier, who is impressed by Georgia’s cooking skills and even allows her to prepare a few dishes in his kitchen – an honoring gesture. Despite her newfound fame, the lonely store clerk still yearns for those close to her – especially Sean. Just as Georgia attempts to return home an avalanche leaves her trapped inside Pupp; unbeknownst to her, she has a visitor immediately on the other side Last Holiday was nominated for two Teen Choice Awards. Its soundtrack features a number of soul classics by the likes of Marvin Gaye, The Staples Singers, Isaac Hayes, and many more. It is rated PG-13 for some sexual references with a runtime.

    Stardust

The many threads of the story intertwine seamlessly, unfolding at an unforced pace that complements the movie's magical special effects. Charlie Cox stars as Tristan, a somewhat bumbling shopkeeper's assistant in the sleepy English village of Wall, so named for the stone barrier that separates it from the magical realm of Stormhold. Tristan is in love with the beautiful, dismissive Victoria, who much prefers her other suitor, Humphrey, since he has travelled all the way to Ipswich to buy her an engagement ring. Tristan, in a last-ditch effort to win Victoria's affections, offers to bring her a fallen star they've just seen, and she agrees to marry him if he can deliver. Unbeknownst to Tristan, he is the product of his father's sole excursion to Stormhold, where he had a tryst with a mysterious slave girl who said she was a princess. As Tristan retraces his father's steps he discovers that the "star" is actually a beautiful young woman named Yvaine. A trio of witches, led by a delightfully wicked Michelle Pfeiffer, wants to capture Yvaine to cut out her heart and gain eternal youth, while the three remaining sons of the recently deceased king (Peter O'Toole) compete with one another to find the gem Yvaine wears around her neck. With special effects that never outshine the performances and a sweet story peppered with hints of Gaiman's dark sensibility, STARDUST is a truly enchanting fairy tale. This movie is rated PG-13 for some fantasy violence and risque humor.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) is an ordinary, middle-class suburbanite who works as a lineman for the local electric company. One night while responding to a service call in a remote, sparsely populated section of town, a bright light hovered above him. Neary was mesmerized by what appeared to be a spaceship, and stared directly upon it. The light emitted from the craft resulted in an immediate, severe case of sunburn on Roy's face. Later that night his wife, Ronnie (Teri Garr) was baffled by her husband's appearance. Yet Neary's obsession with the incident troubled Ronnie more than his temporary tan, and it would eventually end their otherwise pleasant marriage. Roy was continuously haunted by visions of a uniquely shaped mountain, and felt compelled to both identify and locate it. He began sculpting replicas of the mountain at the dining table, oddly enough with mashed potatoes from the evening's dinner. Dreyfuss' character continued creating sculptures from different materials, including clay and mounds of dirt from his own front yard. He was not the only individual troubled by an extraterrestrial presence, however. Militaries across the globe were baffled by the reappearance of decades old air and sea vessels in decidedly strange places, not to mention the return of their pilots who were presumed dead. Neighbor Jillian Guiler (Melinda Dillon) shared Roy's haunting visions, and eventually accompanied him in decoding their meanings. When her only son, Barry (Cary Guffey) was abducted by the same strange craft, Jillian became even more determined to unravel this nightmarish mystery. Despite both individual's fears a strange sense of benevolence emanated from their experiences, and making contact was the sole cure to their emotional distress. Close Encounters of the Third Kind was an undeniable success, earning a whopping $303 million following its 1977 release -- over a billion dollars if adjusted for inflation. The film won 2 Oscars along with 7 other nominations. Famed composer and long time Spielberg collaborator John Williams received a Grammy for the picture's magnificent score. Rating: PG

    Across The Universe

Jude (Jim Sturgess) is a ship welder and aspiring painter hailing from the working-class British city of Liverpool, famously known as birthplace of The Beatles. Longing to meet his estranged American father, he embarks on a trip to New Jersey and attempts to locate him. He successfully finds dad at Princeton University, working unglamorously as the school's janitor. While there he also meets golfer, troublemaker, and fledgling freshman student Max (Joe Anderson). Max is a midwestern, middle-class kid unsure of what he wants in life, debating whether or not to drop out of school. The arrival of his newfound English friend instills a sense of adventure in the student, prompting the duo to relocate to New York's bohemian Greenwich Village. There they join their roommates: Janis Joplin clone Sadie (Dana Fuchs), Jimi Hendrix inspired guitar player Jojo (Martin Luther McCoy), and a sexually confused young girl named Prudence (T. V. Carpio). Each character finds themselves entangled in the social upheaval of late 1960s American life, including the country's perpetual war with Vietnam. For Max's sister, Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood) that means parting ways with Daniel (Spencer Liff ), her high school boyfriend en route to war. Distraught, she spends the summer in New York with her brother and soon becomes romantically involved with Jude. The eclectic bunch lives harmoniously at first, but as time progresses each relationship and individual disintegrates. Max receives his draft card and departs for Vietnam, while Sadie pursues a solo career, angering Jojo and the other band members. Lucy's increased enthusiasm in the anti-war movement fuels a rift with an apolitical Jude, who prefers painting rather than protesting. In parallel Prudence develops a crush on Lucy, despite her relationship with Jude and obvious heterosexuality; this realization sends Prudence into deep depression. A road trip with fictional psychedelic guru Dr. Robert (Bono) expands the crews' horizons, but Jude's high ends prematurely when immigration discovers his illegal residency and ships him back to the United Kingdom. Never give up hope however, as love conquerors all and each individual manages to overcome these emotional obstacles. Across the Universe uses The Beatles songbook as a plot device throughout the film, where renditions of the band's famous works guide the story and its characters. Singers Bono and Joe Cocker appear in the film and on its soundtrack; actress Salma Hayek and comedian Eddie Izzard also make appearances. The picture was nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy, and Teen Choice award. Rating: Rated PG-13 for some drug content, nudity, sexuality, violence, and explicit language.

Nina (Toni Collette) and Constance (Natasha Richardson) are mourning the impending death of their mother, Ann (Vanessa Redgrave). As they sit by her bed, she begins to murmur the sentence, "Harris and I killed Buddy" in what the girls assume to be mere delirium. Yet as more time passes Ann reveals her past prior to birthing her daughters, and before her handful of failed divorces that both girls unhappily endured. In her youngest years, Ann (then portrayed by Claire Danes) was an aspiring singer hailing from New York City. At a best friend's wedding five decades ago she encountered Harris Arden (Patrick Wilson), a handsome son of a servant who recently earned his medical degree. At the time Ann had been in a relationship with Buddy Wittenborn (Hugh Dancy), who professed his supposed love for her since his college days. After drinking a bit too much champagne however, Buddy passionately kisses Harris and inadvertently reveals his homosexuality. Ann is crushed, feels misled, and shuns Buddy for the remainder of the night. That gives her time to become better acquainted with Harris. Immediately both sense a natural chemistry between them, which eventually leads to a sexual encounter that same day. As the two leave the wedding in search of privacy, an inebriated Buddy follows hoping to reconcile with Ann. Instead, he wanders into traffic and is killed by a car. Neither Harris nor Ann know of this until the next day, but both felt partially guilty for its happening. Nevertheless their relationship endured, even as Buddy and Ann became involved with other people. Eventually their affair had to end, but Ann has never forgotten Harris and lived a regretful and unfulfilled life without him. Constance and Nina are experiencing their own unique hardships that, depending upon their resolution, could lead to a life of happiness or one of misery. Can they learn from their mother's mistakes? Rating: Rated PG-13 for some thematic elements, sexual material, a brief accident scene, and explicit language.

    Memoirs of a Geisha

The movie follows the life of Chiyo Sakamoto, a young girl abandoned by her parents and forced by circumstance to transform herself into a geisha. Traditional Japanese geishas are women who perform music, provide conversation, and dance for groups of men. They should not, however, be confused with prostitutes since no sexual acts are involved. Chiyo was born in the years preceding World War II into a struggling family; her parents were unable to support their new daughter, and subsequently sold Chiyo to the owner of a geisha house. There Chiyo serves as a pseudo-slave to Mother until she compensates for the cost of her purchase. Life in the geisha house is not easy and, at the tender age of 9, her future seems bleak. One day sadness overwhelms Chiyo as she roams the city’s streets. A businessman referred to as The Chairman notices her, and attempts to console the crying girl by buying her some shaved ice. While with Chiyo The Chairman notices her beautiful bluish-gray eyes; this sight is implanted in his mind, and for years he never forgets their uniqueness. The Chariman’s random act of kindness deeply touches Chiyo’s heart. Though she resided at a geisha house, she was not necessarily expected to become one herself. This changed after meeting the Chairman, and the young girl devotes her time to becoming a geisha, hoping to one day reunite with the kind man. Soon after making her decision Chiyo is taken under the wing of Mameha, a famed geisha who renames the child Sayuri Nitta. Sayuri excels in her studies of music, dance, art, and conversation. Still, she faces fierce competition from her heartless rival, Hatsumomo. At the same time she battles with traditional teachings, which forbid a geisha from falling in love with a client – in this case The Chairman. “Memoirs of a Geisha” performed remarkably well in theaters across the globe, earning a total of $162 million. Its soundtrack features the work of cellist Yo Yo Ma and is composed by the legendary John Williams. The picture earned 3 Oscars and a Golden Globe. This movie is rated PG-13 for mature subject matter and some sexual content.

    Nanny Mcphee

Widower Cedric Brown is at his wits' end. His seven children have just scared off their 17th nanny since their mother passed away and seem to have exhausted all local resources. Then, as if by magic, Nanny McPhee appears out of the blue, literally warts and all. This governess has a different approach to minding Mr. Brown's wild brood; each tap of her walking stick seems to work magic and impart a much-needed lesson. Although the children are determined to chase her away, they soon discover how much they really need her. But the Brown family has another problem. Stern Great Aunt Adelaide, the late Mrs. Brown's aunt, has been supporting the family and has issued an ultimatum to Cedric: he must marry by month's end or she will cut off all financial support. Cedric is reluctant to marry just anyone, and his options appear to be limited to the garish widow Selma Quickly. Will he marry to keep his family intact, or have his children learned enough to help him find love again? Firth and an understated Thompson are in fine form, and Lansbury, Imrie, Derek Jacobi, and Peter Barlow are a delight in their supporting roles, as are the children. The costumes and set are infused with vivid colours that lend a larger-than-life, fanciful feel to the film, adding to the magic. This movie is rated PG for mild thematic elements, some rude humour and brief language.

    Friends With Money

Olivia (Jennifer Aniston) lives in West Hollywood, an affluent section of Los Angeles. She's beautiful and smart, and accompanied by a series of well-to-do friends. Franny (Joan Cusack) is the first amongst them, a stay-home mom with a considerable fortune in the bank. She is a self-proclaimed philanthropist whose intentions, most likely, are motivated more by flaunting her wealth than caring who truly benefits from it. Christine (Catherine Keener) works at home alongside her husband David (Jason Isaacs) as a screenwriter. Collaboratively they have raked in big bucks over the years, though recently the duo has hit a creative slump. While they sit face to face each day, with their computers back to back, Christine and David spend more time fighting than writing. The last of Olivia's pals, Jane (Frances McDormand) is a snippy fashion designer experiencing a prolonged bout of depression. As a result (and to everyone's hygienic displeasure) she has vowed never to wash her hair. Her husband, Aaron (Simon McBurney) is similarly tuned into the fashion world; he's also incredibly effeminate, causing people to doubt his heterosexuality. It doesn't help that gay men hit on him. Aniston's character exists in the midst of all of this – an oddball who's not rich, sophisticated, or particularly glamorous in comparison to her three friends. At one time she taught at a prestigious school, but resigned after students began tossing quarters at her. Now she works as a maid while her boyfriend, Mike (Scott Caan) accompanies her to various homes, insistent upon having sex in each one. His 'service' of course means he gets a share of Olivia's earnings. When she's not cleaning homes or out with the girls she's rolling a joint. Yet something keeps Olivia bound to these eccentric folks, and they welcome her with equal fervor. Perhaps they see another shallow companion in the making – if only she had a husband of equal superficiality. Friends With Money is an independent film with a meager $6 million budget. It managed to earn more than $18 million however, deeming it a fairly impressive success. The soundtrack features topically appropriate songs by songstress Rickie Lee Jones. Rating: Rated R for explicit language, some sexual content, and brief drug use.

    Man of the House

Tommy Lee Jones plays Roland Sharp, a no nonsense Texas Ranger, who along with his partner Maggie Swanson are hot on the trail of Morgan Ball, a fugitive crime boss. With the assistance of an FBI agent, and some involuntary information from crooked minister Percy Stevens, Roland determines the whereabouts of Morgan, resulting in a violent shootout that claims the life of Roland’s partner Swanson. Morgan’s accomplice, unbeknownst to Roland, is FBI agent Eddie Zaine, who is present during the killing but claims no knowledge of the assailant – a statement that is later revealed to be false. Luckily, however, a group of sexy University of Texas cheerleaders witnessed the attack from their locker room window. While this is good news for Roland, it is bad news for the cheerleaders, who Morgan and Zaine now intend to murder. To protect the girls Roland goes undercover as their assistant cheerleading coach, subsequently moving into their sorority house to guard over them. Stereotypically ditsy, the girls are unhappy with Roland’s strict demands especially when he seizes their cell phones, commands them to wear less revealing clothes and instates a curfew, effectively putting them under house arrest and temporarily destroying their ever-important social lives. Of course the girls manage to evade Roland’s tactics, though not without consequence: they soon discover that their lives are truly in danger, and Roland is not merely trying to ruin their fun. After their van is blown up, nearly killing the cheerleading squad, the ranger starts bonding with the ladies, enjoying a facial, manicure, and even volunteering to purchase feminine products for them while shopping for groceries. Meanwhile Barb develops a crush on Roland, though he is more interested in hooking up with her English teacher, Molly, and the girls are eager to assist. The picture’s soundtrack features quintessential sports anthems by the likes of 2 Unlimited and C+C Music Factory, in addition to senseless favorites such as Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” and Abba’s “Dancing Queen.” “Man of the House” is rated PG-13 for violence, sexual content, crude humor and a drug reference.

Boog longs to return to the cushy conditions he had with Beth, an animal-loving park ranger who rescued him and raised him as a pet from the time he was a cub. Desperate to please his new friend, who spared him from an overzealous hunter, Elliot tries to help lead Boog back to the mountainside town, but instead they are met with hostility by their fellow forest creatures. The creatures include a combative squirrel, McSquizzy; a perfectionist beaver, Reilly; and a machismo-fueled deer, Ian, who is Elliot's nemesis. Now, with hunting season upon them, they must all align to defend themselves against the hunters that annually plague their domain. This movie is rated PG for some mature references, including rude humor and mild violence, but overall offers entertainment appropriate for the whole family.

    The Women

With a female director, an all female cast and hundreds of female extras, The Women is a movie made by women for women and is about a tightly knit group of girlfriend’s lives as they each face their own unique set of trials and tribulations with not a single man seen throughout the entire film, an attribute famously unique to the 1939 original. The movie centers around Mary Haines, a successful clothing designer and happily married mother of an 11-year old girl. Her husband, Steven seems to be an ideal companion; their relationship has survived more than a decade – a notable feat for a professional couple in the 21st century. But Mary’s marital bliss comes to an abrupt end when one of her closest girlfriends, Sylvie discovers that Steven is having an affair with a stunning perfume spritzer named Crystal. Candice Bergen plays Mary’s mother, Catherine Frazier who advises her daughter not to confront her husband or his lover; despite Catherine’s advice, Mary eventually confronts both parties. While Steven’s affair is undoubtedly troubling for Mary, another betrayal wounds her with equal or greater pain. In a desperate attempt to rejuvenate her fledging career, her best friend provides a tabloid journalist with juicy details regarding Steven’s extramarital affair. Mary ends their friendship without hesitation but Sylvie regrets her disloyalty and continues a motherly relationship with Mary’s daughter, Molly. Mary’s other girlfriends include Edie, who is addicted to pregnancy and Alex, an alluring lesbian. With her friends’ moral support, and her mother’s economic backing, Mary’s misfortunes become the catalyst for personal freedom as she discovers her true calling in life. Simultaneously, Mary must not only resolve her conflicts with Steven and Sylvie, but also reach out to her emotionally abandoned daughter. “The Women” was a box office success grossing over $48 million worldwide. It is rated PG-13 for sex-related material, language, some drug use and brief smoking.

Fred Simmons (Danny R. McBride) is a small-town karate instructor who owns and operates a strip mall dojo. In general, Simmons' students idolize their teacher despite his obvious lack of skill -- and in some cases human decency. As the sole Taekwondo 'expert' in the city however the wannabe sensei feels important, partially because his pupils have no superior alternative to compare him to but mostly because he is well -- a total jerk. While Simmons may have control over his dojo he has no control over his adulterous, spandex-obsessed wife, Suzie (Mary Jane Bostic). Their already crumbling relationship reaches its nadir when Fred learns that Suzie is two-timing her husband while at work; adding insult to injury, he discovers that her business documents are nothing more than photocopies of her bare breasts and derričre. The relationship eventually comes to a screeching halt and she is booted from Fred's home. The breakup leaves the instructor extremely bitter, causing him to belittle and punish his students in retribution. Faithful customers flee from the business in frustration, while potential members are sexually harassed, insulted, and subsequently scared away. In order to raise Fred's spirits, he travels to meet his lifelong hero, fellow pseudo-professional martial artist and B movie star Chuck 'the Truck' Wallace (Ben Best). Unfortunately the meeting is more damaging than therapeutic; a glimpse into Chuck's everyday life reveals a troubled alcoholic, womanizer, and overall mess. Rather than allow this discovery to drag Simmons deeper into depression he uses it to confront his fears and character flaws. He invites Chuck to his dojo for a public fight, with an audience comprised of his students and adversaries -- namely Suzie. Fred's greatest opponent is not another man though, but his own ego. Whether or not the faux-sensei can defeat Wallace or reverse years of distasteful behavior remains to be seen, however laughs and numerous awkward moments are guaranteed. The Foot Fist Way was filmed on a shoestring budget and unearthed by Will Ferrell who claims to have watched the movie more than 20 times. One might describe it as a mash up of Napoleon Dynamite and Anchorman. The picture earned a modest $245 thousand in theaters, triple its $79 thousand cost of production and rendering it a commercial success. That does not account for home media sales and rentals however, where its cult status is most apparent. Rating: Rated R for strong language and some sexual content.

Prince Edward, despite his royalty, is by most standards your average twenty-something guy. He enjoys racing cars and beautiful girls, a pastime that earns him unwelcome publicity in his native Denmark. Yet despite having what would appear to be the perfect life, Edward yearns for independence; he has a desire to understand what it is like to be a common person. More importantly, he yearns to find a common girl – not merely someone of royal lineage who he may or may not actually love. However he has no idea of how to make his dreams a reality until he stumbles upon the infamous American video series, “Girls Gone Wild” where drunken college girls expose themselves in front of cameras. Naďve, Edward believes that if he travels to an American college campus, in this case one in Wisconsin he will be able to meet loose girls like those in the video. This leads Edward to beg his parents to send him to America and fend for himself the following year; his mother sternly objects, but his father believes it would be a good experience for the pampered prince and sends him on his way. Accompanying Edward on his trip is Soren, the prince’s personal secretary. Upon arriving at the university the two accidentally strike Paige with their fancy car. While Paige does not get a glimpse of Edward (who has now adopted the nickname ‘Eddie’), he does get a clear gaze of her, which would in turn lead to an obsession. Eddie eventually sees his love again at a local bar and makes a rather obnoxious pass at her. Rather than respond similarly Paige has the prince ejected from the building. Yet Eddie will have another shot when the two are assigned as lab partners in their chemistry class. With time, Paige begins to enjoy Eddie’s company and they soon become a couple. Unbeknownst to Paige, and indeed the entire campus is that the foreign exchange student is a prince. Naturally Paige discovers Edward’s fib and is less than thrilled, especially after her photo is plastered across international tabloids while in lip lock with him. Even if the small town girl should decide to forgive Eddie, would she be willing to forfeit her career as a doctor and accept the title of princess, and eventually queen? “The Prince and Me” was nominated for a Teen Choice Award. This movie is rated PG for some sex-related material and language.

College sweethearts Tom and Kate both dreamed of having both fulfilling careers and a huge family. Meet the Fockers is the sequel to the hit movie Meet the Parents. In the second installment of the comedy hit movies Pam, the daughter of a retired CIA agent, has been given permission by her tough dad to marry Gaylord "Greg" Focker. The couple decide to travel to Miami, Florida, with Pam’s parents and nephew and their cat to meet Greg’s quirky liberal parents, Roz and Bernie Focker. Greg’s mother, Roz, is a sex therapist for the elderly, while his dad is a prosecutor who stopped practicing when Greg was born to be a stay-at-home dad. On the other hand, Pam’s parents Jack and Dina are traditionally conservative, the point that produces many of the movie's set ups and comic situations. Meet The Fockers has assembled a historic, once-in-a-lifetime cast, which portrayed the movie characters in an exciting way. It is noticed that every conversation is totally inappropriate and downright embarrassing, keeping audiences braced for the next disaster. The film was a commercial success and is the highest grossing live action comedy in history. It gained a total worldwide gross of $516,642,939. The movie also won the ASCAP and the MTV Movie Awards. Barnyard

The Secret Lives Of Animals Beyond The Barn Doors “Barnyard” is an amusing tale of animals who, when humans are not present, take on human characteristics such as driving cars, talking, and even walking on four legs instead of two. Fortunately, the tight-knit community of cows, chickens, and other livestock are taken care of by a strictly vegetarian farmer, who has no interest in slaughtering them. The primary characters are anthropomorphic cows that, despite their large size, manage to do seemingly impossible things. Ben, the elder of the group is in his final years and pleads with his son, Otis to leave behind his wild, irresponsible, life of partying. His son’s future is particularly important to Ben since, after his passing, Otis will inherit his father’s responsibilities; in his current state Otis is far too immature to do so. Otis is forced to grow up quick though when coyotes kill his father. No longer can he have wild, fraternity-like parties, steal cars and create mischief. His focus now is to protect the farm from outside intruders, including not only predatory animals, but also a teenage prankster who enjoys tipping the cows over while they sleep. But does Otis have the strength to lead a new generation of animals? His ability will be tested repeatedly and not only will his life and dignity be at stake, but also the lives of every animal under his supervision. The film’s soundtrack features a surprisingly well-rounded roster of musicians that will appeal to adults and children alike. This movie is rated PG for some mild peril and rude humor.

Maggie Rice (Meg Ryan) is a secular heart surgeon, unconvinced that a spiritual world or afterlife exists. As a practitioner of medicine she has been trained to search for empirical evidence in all situations; therefore any theoretical or theological claims without tangible proof are immediately dismissed. An otherworldly experience will ultimately challenge Rice's thinking though, while simultaneously touching her heart and soul. During what would ordinary be a routine heart operation, Maggie struggles to revive a man who has suddenly slipped into cardiac arrest. The doctor is a perfectionist who refuses to accept defeat, even when it is seemingly beyond her control. Indeed, her patient's time had already been written, and no amount of effort could have saved him. As a testament to that an angel had entered the operating room preceding his death, tasked to escort the man's soul to heaven. Upon the angel's arrival Maggie feels a strange presence in the room, despite no observable causes. At that moment the angel, named Seth (Nicolas Cage) had laid his eyes upon her, and immediately fell in love. Invisibility initially prevents Seth from introducing himself to Maggie, at least until fellow angel Cassiel (Andre Braugher) explains how. No longer hidden to the world, Seth approaches the doctor and introduces himself. The two form a close friendship, but Maggie is frightened to discover Seth's immunity to injury. Up until this point Seth concealed his true identity, a truth so extraordinary that any person would question his sanity -- and quite likely end the relationship. Nevertheless Maggie maintains feelings for Seth, forcing her to make a difficult decision after receiving a colleague's wedding proposal. The prospect of marrying a spiritual being visible to only her, and incapable of romantic relations seems bleak. When Seth meets a jolly man named Nathaniel (Dennis Franz) however, a possible solution is revealed. City of Angels performed beyond expectations at the box office earning nearly $200 million, effortlessly recuperating its $55 million budget. The picture was nominated for multiple awards, including a Golden Globe, Grammy, and MTV Movie Award. Its soundtrack features performances by Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLachlan, U2 and many more. Rating: Rated PG-13 for sexuality including explicit language, and some nudity.

Ironically, the unpopulated town’s only repairman is Chuck, who is eventually hired by Nick after his own handy work proves disastrous. As time goes on the family discovers Chuck is truly a jack-of-all-trades, not just a blatant opportunist looking for cash. He quickly bonds with the kids and Suzanne, who subsequently find him more interesting and entertaining than dad, creating jealously and a rivalry between the two men. Slapstick comedy ensues while bratty kids, Colin and Ty create havoc and Chuck signs on as Suzanne’s male midwife. It is going to be a bumpy ride ahead for everyone. Despite panning by critics “Are We Done Yet?” pleased audiences just as its predecessor, earning a respectable $58 million worldwide. Children and young adults of the 80s may recognize tidbits of “The Money Pit” (1986) within the picture, which was also directly inspired by the same 40s picture. This movie is rated PG for some sexual innuendo and occasionally harsh language.

New Jersey wedding singer Robbie Hart loses all hope after being abandoned at the altar by his fiancee Linda, who decides that the prospect of marrying a guy who sings at wedding receptions doesn't equal the attraction she felt when he was lead singer in a rock band. Afterwards, Robbie finds consolation in his friendship with Julia Sullivan, an effervescent ray of light in the shape of a catering-service waitress at the wedding receptions and bar mitzvahs where he performs. Julia asks Robbie to help her plan her upcoming wedding to sleazy Glenn, DeLorean-driving junk bond salesman who tomcats around and treats women like unfeeling slabs of meat. Julia has no idea Glenn is such a sleaze ball and Robbie is starting to fall for her. Can Robbie win Julia over before she elopes to Las Vegas? Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore play their parts as if the story has never been told before. Most of the time, the script allows them to act believable, giving the well-worn plot some crackle. The Wedding Singer is cheesy fun for the nostalgically inclined. Steve Buscemi tries to steal the film in an uncredited role as a drunk best man, but that honor actually goes to Alexis Arquette, as "George." This movie is rated PG-13 for sex-related material and language.

    Atonement

Fledgling writer Briony Tallis, as a 13-year-old, irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister's lover of a crime he did not commit. On a sultry summer day in 1935, an upper-class British family prepares for a dinner party at their country estate. The players: Briony Tallis, a precocious preteen writer; her older sister, Cecilia, Cambridge graduate and femme fatale; Robbie Turner, the housekeeper's mensch-y son, who carries a torch for Cecilia; and various visitors and family members. A series of misperceptions, fuelled by the summer heat and Briony's childish hurts and fevered imagination, lead to a dramatic false accusation that lands Robbie in jail. We meet all three characters five years later in the thick of World War II, as foot soldier Robbie prepares for the Dunkirk evacuation and the two estranged sisters train as nurses in London. Director Joe Wright deserves high praise for translating Ian McEwan's highly internalized, multilayered tale of guilt, redemption, and the power and limits of the artistic imagination, into a sumptuous visual feast that not only conveys the intricate plot points of the novel, but dives head-first into the emotional subtleties that make the story so wrenching. Whether any of the characters' actions are ultimately atoned for by the end of the film is a matter of perception, but Wright's sympathetic eye ensures that every player gets a fair trial. This movie is rated R for disturbing war images, language and some sexuality.

    Happily N'Ever After

Happily N'Ever After adds a twist to fairy-tale traditions and an alliance of evil-doers, led by Frieda, looks to take over Fairy Tale Land. Ella realizes her stepmother is out to ruin her storybook existence and takes a dramatic turn and blossoms into the leader of the resistance effort. Set in Fairy Tale Land, this comedy features the heroes and villains of stories from Rumplestiltskin to Sleeping Beauty. The job of the wizard is to ensure everyone has happy endings. But when he leaves on vacation, he entrusts his tasks to his inept assistants, and Cinderella's evil stepmother begins to wreak havoc on the endings of fairy tales. Though she's interested in menace in general, she particularly wants her stepdaughter, Ella , to suffer. She vows to keep her from Prince Charming, much to the delight of his servant, Rick, who is in love with Ella himself. This film takes aim at the stories everyone knows by heart. Here Prince Charming needs a guidebook to behave like royalty, with Warburton fashioning a delightfully doltish contrast to traditional romantic heroes. Character actor Jon Polito plays a big bad wolf who could have been an extra on GoodFellas. As the wicked stepmother, Weaver turns decades of experience playing strong women into portraying this archetypal baddie. With its celebrity voices, HAPPILY N'EVER AFTER is an amusing reversal of Disney's fairy-tale films of the past. This movie is rated PG for some mild action and rude humor.

Suddenly, every ghost in New York City wants Pincus to help clean up their unfinished business. Dapper Frank is the most persistent ghost, badgering Pincus to help keep his widow, Gwen, from making a big mistake. An Unfinished Life

Unfinished Life is a story of a widower and single mother attempting to escape from an abusive boyfriend whose only refuge is a father-in-law who despises her. Jean Gilkyson is a woman on the run from her obsessed and estranged boyfriend, Gary Winston. Devoid of any other options, Jean flees to her father-in-law’s, Einar Gilkyson, Wyoming ranch with her daughter, Griff. Years prior Jean wedded Einar’s son, Griffin who died tragically in a car accident as they were traveling one late and sleepy night. Einar disliked Jean before the crash occurred, primarily because she extracted Griffin from his native Wyoming to her place of origin. However her possible involvement in his death, whether intentional or not, terminated any potentially cordial relationship between the two. The father-in-law is unaware though that Jean was pregnant with Griffin’s child at the time of the accident, and for years he has had an unknown granddaughter. In some respects, this eases the tension between the two when Einar realizes Griffin was not his final progeny, though he still has not completely forgiven Jean. The widower settles into her new environment and soon meets her father-in-law’s best friend, Mitch. One year ago Mitch was severely injured when both men attempted to rescue a calf from the jaws of a wild bear. Since Einar was drunk during the incident, he feels responsible for Mitch’s condition, and dedicates his life to helping his crippled friend; without Einar’s assistance, Mitch would not be able to survive. Jean finds a job at a local restaurant and begins warming up to Sheriff Crane. While Crane appears to be different from other guys she has dated, Jean lives in fear of former boyfriend Gary, who appears in her life soon again. When Gary makes the long trek to the ranch in search of Jean, a confrontation occurs between him and Einar. After the altercation, Einar demands that Jean clarify precisely what happened on the night of her husband’s death. From this point forward Mitch, Einar, and Jean begin confronting their fears and inner demons so that they can finally move forward. This movie is rated PG-13 due to some violence, including domestic abuse and adult language.

    Crazy In Love

Donald Morton suffers from Asperger's Syndrome; Morton’s disability has gifted him with an almost beyond human knack for numbers, though at the expense of dysfunction. Sufferers from Asperger's often find themselves preoccupied with seemingly peculiar ideas and are overly focused on contemplating them. Donald has been lucky enough to overcome many, though certainly not all of the disease’s common obstacles, so much so that he leads an autism support group. This is where he meets the beautiful Isabelle Sorenson. Isabelle seems too good to be true; like Donald she suffers from the same form of autism. However, while Donald’s autism is expressed in an obsession with numbers, Isabelle’s results in extreme creativity and awkward social outbursts. Together the two soon spark a relationship, though Isabelle is frighteningly sexually forward, something Donald is not accustomed to. The relationship gets rocky when Isabelle, believing she is doing Donald a favor, reorganizes and cleans his bird-ridden apartment. Donald responds in anger and drives a wedge between what might just be a match made in heaven. Mozart and the Whale is based on the true story of Jerry Newport, a man who realized he was autistic after watching the movie the “Rain Man.” This movie is rated PG-13 for sexual content, language and some thematic material.

Four best girlfriends hatch a plan to stay connected with one another as their lives start off in different directions: they pass around a pair of secondhand jeans that fits each of their bodies perfectly. The Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants is a coming-of-age film based on the novel of the same name by Ann Brashares. This tale of lifelong friendship uses a pair of magical jeans as a metaphor for the moral support and shared happiness which forms the glue between four teenage girls. The quartet purchase the pants while shopping together before going separate ways for summer vacation. Shy, self-conscious Lena takes the jeans to Greece where she is visiting her grandparents. They hardly seem lucky when she falls into the sea while wearing the pants and almost drowns, only to be rescued by a local fisherman. Before recognizing that the pants helped her find love, Lena sends them along to rebellious Tibby with the hope that the jeans will prove luckier for her. Tibby has stayed home in Bethesda, Maryland for the summer to make a documentary film. With a nagging job at a superstore, Tibby finds humanity and sensitivity while the jeans are in her possession. Next the pants travel to Carmen, a talented writer living with her father for the summer. The jeans make her face the anger she feels toward him for leaving her and her mother, and help her find forgiveness. Finally, the jeans end up at soccer camp in Mexico with Bridget, a beautiful, athletic wild child dealing with the loss of her mother. Through the jeans, Bridget discovers that ignoring the truth doesn't make it disappear. This moving film combines moments of comedy and with heartfelt empathy. This movie is rated PG for thematic elements, some sensuality and language.

    The Water Horse

A lonely boy discovers a mysterious egg that hatches a sea creature of Scottish legend. Based on the novel by BABE author Dick King-Smith, The Water House is set in Scotland during World War II, and focuses on Angus (Alex Etel), a young boy who discovers an unusual egg at Loch Ness. When the egg hatches to reveal a dinosaur-like creature, Angus finds that he has a unique pet--a mythical "water horse," which he names Crusoe. Complicating matters are Crusoe's fast growth rate and soldiers stationed near the lake, factors that make it very tricky to keep the friendly beastie a secret. A thoroughly likable family film, The Water Horse provides an intriguing spin on the classic boy-and-his-dog tale. While Etel, who won over audiences in Millions, ably carries the movie, he is supported by a topnotch ensemble that includes Emily Watson as his mother, newcomer Priyanka Xi as his sister, and Ben Chaplin as a good-natured handyman. Primarily sharing the screen with Etel, however, is the Loch Ness Monster-in-the-making, which is wonderfully rendered by Weta, the company behind the digital effects for The Lord Of The Rings films. Both cute and--in his larger state--intimidating, Crusoe strikes up a surprisingly believable relationship with Angus, providing the heart of this beautifully photographed story. This movie is rated PG for some action/peril, mild language and brief smoking.

    Son Of Rambow

Will Proudfoot (Bill Milner) is the member of a strict religious community in rural England that forbids television, music, and dancing. The prohibition on television even extends to educational films. When his class views a documentary one day, he excuses himself and waits in the hallway until the movie ends. In that hallway he is rudely introduced to school terror Lee Carter (Will Poulter) who promptly tosses a ball at Proudfoot's head. He misses but breaks a fishbowl instead. Carter agrees to take the blame, but stipulates that Will must perform stunts in his home movie remake of First Blood as a favor. He reluctantly agrees. Lee's brother Lawrence (Ed Westwick) operates a small video bootlegging business, and as such owns some video equipment, including an early 80s, large and cumbersome VHS camera. The two boys begin filming their low budget film, Rambow (the misspelling is unintentional). Soon these polar opposites form a genuine friendship, but must hide it from Will's mother, Mary (Jessica Hynes) who would shun the relationship, and especially Will's budding interest in filmmaking. This strange relationship is interrupted when a group of French exchange students headed by Didier Revol (Jules Sitruk) arrive. Didier and his pals would like to join the production, but the older peers begin to overtake the entire project. More specifically, Proudfoot is slowly pushed to the sidelines and into irrelevancy. Now to salvage both Lee's film and friendship with Will he must act quickly and intelligently; in parallel, Will must at some point confront his domineering, puritanical mother. Regardless of Rambow's destiny an unforgettable summer is certain to ensue. Son of Rambow's soundtrack features a number of complementary 80s tunes by Britpop artists like Gary Numan, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, The Cure and many more. Rating: Rated PG-13 for some violence and reckless behavior.

Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason

A Thirty-Something’s Quest for Commitment Bridget Jones: Edge Of Reason begins a few weeks after where its predecessor left off. Mark and Bridget are still happily together, and Bridget is still desperate for the human rights attorney to pop the question. After both their parents’ meet for lunch and inquire about the possibility of a wedding date, Bridget is crushed when Mark states that marriage is not something he sees in his immediate future. The couple’s relationship is stressed further upon the discovery of Mark’s sexy coworker Rebecca Gilles, a woman who seems to compliment the lawyer in every possible way and who makes the clumsy Bridget feel completely insecure. Mark’s continued avoidance of any discussion regarding marriage causes Bridget to doubt his love for her, throwing her back into the arms of former cheat Daniel Cleaver who she bumps into during a business trip to Thailand. Things get sticky when Ms. Jones is caught attempting to smuggle cocaine, unbeknownst to her, en route to England. Inevitably, Daniel and Mark engage in fisticuffs a second time, battling for the plump, alcoholic, chain smoking woman of their dreams. Will it be a happy ending as before, or a tragedy? Music by notable artists such as Joss Stone, Mary J. Blige, Carly Simon, Barry White, and many others make for a soundtrack everyone can enjoy. The movie was a worldwide smash grossing $262 million internationally. This movie is rated R due to some adult language and sexual content.
