I Me Wed
For the past five years Isabelle Darden (Erica Durance) has witnessed nearly all of her friends get married. Her mom, Lillian (Janet-Laine Green) and best friend Amy (Cara Pifko) relentlessly pressure Isabelle to find a good man – even if it is merely a boyfriend. While the thirty-year old does date frequently, she rarely meets the same man twice, continuously changing boyfriends like pairs of socks. Yet one can somewhat understand her position. Isabelle makes a respectable living buying old homes, restoring them, and then selling them for much more than she initially paid. She has a nice apartment, car, and wardrobe; intimacy can be obtained as well, via an occasional one-night stand or two. While Amy and Isabelle's other girlfriends are marrying for money or stability, she has already obtained both. Why bother? After being nagged for years, forced into horrible blind dates, and listening to one lecture after another about the merits of marriage, Isabelle finally accepts her fate. She has not exactly changed her opinion however. When wedding invitations reach family and friends they are astonished to discover that the groom is – Isabelle! Indeed, she intends to marry herself, perhaps ending a half-decade of nonstop harassment from both Lillian and Amy; more importantly though, Isabelle will prove to the world that neither marriage nor a man are prerequisites for lifelong happiness. Or at least she thinks. When a local newspaper covers her story it quickly goes viral, spreading from one media outlet to another. Traditionalists like Lillian are repulsed by the idea, but feminists are fascinated: Isabelle has inadvertently cultivated a twenty-first century sexual revolution. The event is soon spiraling out of control however, and what was once intended to be a small ceremony has transformed into a multimillion dollar media extravaganza, courtesy of a television talk show host who fronts the bill. As this occurs Isabelle meets Colin (Paul Popowich), a modest Harvard graduate who enjoys working construction alongside his father, Roy (Vlasta Vrana). Inevitably the unimaginable begins to occur, and Isabelle falls in love with Colin. In parallel Isabelle begins to realize that her attitude toward marriage was wrong, yet stubbornly continues with the ceremony, possibly forfeiting both her integrity and soul-mate in the process. Erin Brockovich
Julia Roberts portrays real-life activist Erin Brockovich, a struggling single mom who initiated a legal battle with a multibillion-dollar corporation and prevailed. It all began quite simply. Brockovich sought the help of Lebanese-American lawyer Edward L. Masry (Albert Finney) after an automobile collision injured her. To both Masry and his client it seemed like an open and shut case; evidence suggested that the defendant was responsible for the crash, and as such should pay Brockovich for monetary damages in addition to her pain and suffering. To the plaintiff and her attorney's surprise the court thought differently though: Brockovich did not receive a penny. With a mere $16 in her bank account and no job the future seemed bleak, particularly for her three children. Erin's unemployment was not due to lack of effort, but lack of opportunities. If nothing else her reaction to the ruling affirmed the mother's willpower. Since Masry's defense proved inadequate she demanded a job at his firm. With a mere high school education, however, such a position seemed out of reach – if available at all. Initially he declined his client's request. As a result, Brockovich refused to leave the lawyer's office except with a job. Masry eventually caved into Erin's request and hired her as a file clerk. Aside from being scantily clad and foul-mouthed, the new hire performed exceptionally. Still no one would have ever guessed she would uncover one of the most appalling environmental crimes in history. One day while Erin was sorting through various real estate cases she found a file that contained medical documents. Her interest was immediately piqued. Why would a case about home ownership require medical evidence? The documents indicated that the Pacific Gas and Electric Company had purchased the home of an elderly woman named Donna Jensen (Marg Helgenberger), but why? Brockovich gets in touch with Donna, who reveals that PG&E not only purchased the home, but also paid for the woman's medical treatment. Brockovich probes further and discovers that Miss Jensen was a victim of chromium poisoning. Rather than plainly acknowledge responsibility, PG&E paid to cover up the incident fearing that a scandal would erupt. Erin begins interviewing hundreds of the town's residents and gathers medical statistics, discovering that an astounding number of individuals shared Jensen's medical ailments. Circumstantial evidence seems to indicate not only PG&E's complicity in the poisonings, but their awareness of it for years. Now all Brockovich needs is a smoking gun, and it is eventually placed right into her own hands. Julia Roberts was awarded a Golden Globe, Oscar, Teen Choice, and MTV Movie Award for her performance. At the box office the film earned more than $256 million internationally. The soundtrack features songs from female pop artist Sheryl Crow.

My Life In Ruins
The Most Fun You Can Have Without A Passport Georgia is an American academic who's lost her teaching job in Athens. She's taken a job as a tour guide, but she hates it and it shows: the tourists, mostly American, are bored with history and facts; they want to shop. Every group has a goofy couple, a frat boy, a sullen teen, a feuding couple, divorcées looking for a mate, and a funny guy. This group is no exception, plus there's no air conditioning and a bearded silent driver. Thanks to an unlikely friendship, plus daisies, an ice-cream cone, the history of syrup, and the Oracle at Delphi, Georgia may have a shot at finding her kefi during this four-day tour. In a clash of personalities and cultures, everything seems to go wrong, until one day when an older traveler named Irv Gordon, shows her how to have fun, and to take a good look at the last person she would ever expect to find love with, her Greek bus driver. My Life In Ruins is set amongst the ruins of ancient Greece and Alicante, in Spain, including Guadalest and Javea. This was the first time that an American film studio was allowed to film on location at the Acropolis; the Greek government gave the studio its approval after Nia Vardalos sought permission to film several scenes there. The script is originally by Mike Reiss (The Simpsons, The Simpsons Movie), based on his travel experiences, but it was later re-written by Vardalos after she became involved. This movie is rated PG-13 for sexual content.

Joe Dirt
As the title character of Joe Dirt, David Spade plays a "white trash" janitor at an L.A. radio station, whose mullet hairdo is just one of many personal oddities that make him the object of much ridicule. And the sanitation gig is just the most recent of Joe's many incarnations during a tumultuous life, which got off on the wrong foot when Joe was abandoned at the Grand Canyon by his parents as a young child. After stumbling into the on-air studio, Joe steadily recounts the sad and comical story of how he cared for himself and journeyed around the country trying to relocate his family, all while being prodded, teased, and eventually embraced by a sarcastic deejay (Dennis Miller) and a rapt listening audience. His travels involve stints selling fireworks, wrangling alligators, riding aloft in a car dealership display balloon, and being held captive by a Silence of the Lambs-style serial killer. Despite numerous setbacks and bruising physical injuries, Joe emerges from each episode with his spirit intact as he searches optimistically for his roots, and eventually for the chance to return to the one place he was accepted -- a rural farm where the girl of his dreams (Brittany Daniel) awaits.

Johnny English
Johnny English is a comedic take on an almost 40 year history of spy flicks, most notably the James Bond franchise and stars British funnyman Rowan Atkinson as the film’s hero while America’s John Malkovich plays villain, Pascal Sauvage. Johnny English is an underachieving spy working for the MI7, Britain’s internationally known secret intelligence agency. England’s upper-class consider him a simpleton, too incompetent to carry out even the most minor tasks and plan to never assign him a case unless all other agents have been killed, which against all odds indeed becomes a reality. One of the agency’s top spies, Agent One is killed during a case and all MI7 agents attend his funeral to pay their respects. Ordinarily that would be a good thing, however, French villain Pascal Sauvage uses the opportunity to bomb the event and murder all of the nation’s spies – except one. Johnny’s stupidity generally causes him grief, though this time it saves his life. Now the only remaining member of MI7, Johnny is assigned to locate the killer and prevent him from causing any further chaos. Sauvage, a descendant of William the Conqueror is determined to regain his family’s reign of England, and intends to do so by stealing the Crown Jewels. Once Sauvage gains control of the monarch he plans to transform it into a prison, where citizens will essentially perform slave labor. Inevitably Johnny makes mistakes along the way, including losing the Crown Jewels he was assigned to protect. Yet with some help from his assistant, Angus Bough and love interest Lorna Campbell he might just save the kingdom after all. “Johnny English” was shot under a $40 million budget and earned more than $160 million worldwide. Due to the success of the picture many have speculated that a sequel is in the works, and Atkinson himself has hinted at the possibility on more than one occasion. The picture is rated PG for comic nudity, some crude humor and harsh language.

The End of the Affair
The End of the Affair is a screen adaptation of novelist Graham Greene’s identically titled book published in 1951. Set both during and after World War II, Greene’s work was part biographical and like him the main character, Maurice Bendrix was a prominent author. Bendrix, a married man, had a passionate affair with his mistress, Sarah Miles that lasted approximately two years. However the affair ended abruptly one night while Sarah was visiting Maurice’s home, which was struck by a bomb, and subsequently injured him. In panic, Sarah ran down a flight of stairs, only to find her love bloodied and no longer breathing. She ran back into the bedroom, got on her knees, and vowed to God that if he saved Maurice’s life, she would halt her affair with him, and finally wed her loyal boyfriend, Henry Miles. At that very moment Bendrix miraculously entered the room, yet he was dumbfounded when Sarah ceased all communication with him. It was clear that Sarah still had feelings for Maurice, and he certainly felt the same way. For the years following their breakup Bendrix lived in deep depression and resentment, never able to remove his mistress from memory. Fast forward some years later. Henry has summoned Bendrix’s help, suspicious that Sarah is having an affair with another man. He seizes this moment and hires a private detective, deceitfully claiming that it is for Henry’s best interest. Yet Bendrix intends to use the detective’s findings to win Sarah back, and so the pursuit begins. The sleuth, Parkis alongside his son follow their target, discovering that she is not romancing another man, but visiting Father Richard Smythe, a priest. Bendrix does not hesitate to confront Sarah, diligently attempting to convince her to stay with him. Still, the issue is not whether or not she loves Bendrix; Sarah willfully admits that she has not forgotten about him. Eventually he does persuade her to join him on a weekend vacation, prompting Henry to track both of them down. The result is not necessarily a predictable one. “The End of the Affair” was critically acclaimed, earning 2 Oscar nominations in addition to 4 Golden Globe nominations. The picture is rated R for scenes of strong sexuality.

Hope Floats
Birdee Pruitt is a small town Texan girl who migrated to Chicago. During her youth Birdee was considered the most beautiful and popular girl in high school. Unfortunately, she was also known for her snobbery and conceit, a quality amplified after she left for the big city. In Chicago Birdee resides with her womanizing husband, Bill. Although Bill is not the ideal mate, he does pay the bills and allow Birdee to live a fairly comfortable life. However her big city dream transforms into a nightmare when she is invited onto a Jerry Springer-like talk show under the guise that she will receive a makeover. Indeed, she does receive a makeover of sorts – one that would change her life forever. Once on the show Birdee discovers that her best friend has been having an affair with Bill and that he is uninterested in pursuing the marriage any further. Crushed, Birdee decides to return to her humble hometown. However upon arrival she is humiliated: the entire town watched her talk show appearance, and was certainly not sad that the arrogant, big city beauty queen fell from grace. Yet Birdee’s plight is perhaps of lesser importance than her daughter’s, Bernice. Though adult consensus has determined Bill is a creep, Bernice continues to view him as her loving father. This complicates her mother’s relationship with former high school sweetheart Justin Matisse, who Bernice bitterly rejects as a father figure, certain that her daddy will return. Meanwhile the soon-to-be divorcee struggles to find employment in a town where no one is a stranger, and family histories are known by all. It surely doesn’t help that her caseworker at the local unemployment office was a high school foe who asserts, “I don't see a listing here for prom queen.” Nevertheless Birdee does manage to find work at a photo-processing lab, despite ruining numerous rolls of film. Despite settling into their new surroundings, both Bernice and her mother yearn for their former life. Is there any chance that Bill and Birdee can reconcile? This movie is rated PG-13 for thematic elements.

Accepted
Bartleby Gaines (Justin Long) has hustled through life. His scams, like creating fake IDs, helped line his pockets with cash even without good grades. Academics were never a priority for the teenager, at least not until his high school graduation. Gaines' parents insist that he enrolls in college, reiterating that an education is the key to success. While the teenager loathes the idea of attending a university, he still wants to please mom and dad, and so he begins applying to schools right and left. Yet for each application there is an inevitable rejection. The kid who could con his way into anything has hit an unexpected roadblock. Still Bartleby is desperate to impress his parents, and so he concocts an unbelievable scheme to create a fictional university with guaranteed admittance. Founding the South Harmon Institute of Technology (take note of the acronym the name spells out) was just a matter of creating an acceptance letter, complete with an official school logo and letterhead. The underachiever's parents were elated that a college finally accepted their son. Mom and dad still wanted to know more about South Harmon though, and an Internet search returned zero results. No sweat. Gaines contracts his nerdy best friend, Sherman (Jonah Hill) to create an impressive and convincing website for the make-believe school. When his parents want to visit South Harmon's campus, however, Bartleby's plan seems like it will derail. Or maybe not. The two buds discover an abandoned, rundown mental hospital up for lease and begin renovating it. South Harmon also adds three more similarly pathetic students to its roster: Yale reject Rory (Maria Thayer), Hands (Columbus Short) a former jock, and Glen (Adam Herschman) an all around bonehead. On opening day the school is a success – too big of a success. Hundreds of people stumbled upon the South Harmon website, submitted registrations, and are now ready with their cash in hand. What began as a hoax between friends is now a legitimate school, and after collecting more than a $1 million in tuition, Bartleby is obligated to provide some sort of education – regardless of how futile it may be. Sherman's uncle, Ben Lewis (comedian Lewis Black) becomes the college's dean. Slowly a curriculum is built around self-learning that, despite its outwardly juvenile appearance, begins to rival nearby Harmon university. When Harmon students begin flocking to South Harmon, the distinguished university's dean, Richard Van Horne (Anthony Heald) is determined to shut it down. The future of Gaines' school is in doubt, but don't expect him to throw in the towel just yet. Accepted's soundtrack features a wide range of artists and genres including 80s group Simple Minds (in a nod to The Breakfast Club), Ryan Adams, Weezer, and many more. Filmed under the constraints of a $23 million budget, the picture garnered $38 million worldwide. It earned two Teen Choice Award nominations. Rating: Rated PG-13 for explicit language, sexual material, and drug content.

Stepmom
Mrs. Doubtfire director Chris Columbus continues to explore the family turmoil of divorce in the tearjerker Stepmom, a story that pits the birth mother against the new mother. Jackie (Susan Sarandon), a one-time book editor, is now the consummate soccer mom juggling the schedules of her two kids in her New York ranch outside of Manhattan. Her ex-husband Luke (Ed Harris), who gets weekend custody of the kids, is living in the city with a woman half his age named Isabel (Julia Roberts), a high-fashion photographer with a strong stylistic sense of "what's hot." Since Luke is always away at work, the burden of getting the kids ready for school when they are with their father falls on Isabel, and she just isn't the nurturing type. The story heats up, however, when Jackie learns that she has cancer. Facing the horrors of medical tests and chemotherapy, she realizes that, should something happen to her, her kids will be left with this irresponsible Isabel as their mother, especially after Luke proposes marriage to her. What ensues is part parenting lesson, part competitive parenting, but 100 percent family bonding, as Jackie must learn to allow Isabel to be part of her world and her family
