Romulus, My Father The Bond Between a Father and His Son Can Never Be Broken This is the story of Romulus, his beautiful wife, Christina, and their struggle in the face of great adversity to bring up their son, Raimond Gaita. It is a story of impossible love that ultimately celebrates the unbreakable bond between father and son. Eric Bana stars as Romulus, a Yugoslavian man who struggles to raise his young son alone in Victoria, Australia. After the family moves from Europe, his wife's depression takes over and she leaves her husband and son alone to fend for themselves in the foreign country. Raimond comes of age in Frogmore, Victoria in the early 1960s. His parents are immigrants: his Romanian father farms; his German mother, Christina, estranged from Romulus, is in Melbourne. Romulus is near despair when she takes up with the brother of his best friend, who suggests he send for a new wife from back home. For Rai, poverty, bruises, and the mysterious ways of adults compete with his longing for a stable home and his own incipient puberty. Love and madness lie in the same bed. As an old woman tells Rai, "Sometimes what you reckon and what you get ain't the same thing." This movie is rated R for sexuality, some violence and brief language.

Mad Money Bridget Cardigan (Diane Keaton) is a wealthy housewife accustomed to having the best of life within reach. When her husband Don (Ted Danson) loses his lucrative position at work, the family's maid (Sylvia Castro Galan) is cut loose. With funds short and luxuries few, Bridget applies for a janitorial position at the Federal Reserve. Not long after beginning work, Bridget concocts a scheme to steal tattered and torn bills before they are shredded and trashed. She cannot accomplish this task alone though, and enlists the help of headstrong Nina Brewster (Queen Latifah) and ditzy Jackie Truman (Katie Holmes). Both ladies are initially reluctant, but when Cardigan presents her seemingly foolproof plan requiring nothing more than an ordinary padlock, Nina and Jackie are on board. The girls' first heist is successful, though less profitable than anticipated. After carrying out the task daily, however, the small bills tally up to big bucks. When Don discovers Bridget's new source of income he is naturally disturbed, but somewhat relieved when she vows to stop after the family's debt is paid off. Unfortunately greed knows no boundaries, and all three women continue to fill their bras and panties with stolen loot. Eventually a security officer, portrayed by Roger R. Cross of 24 notoriety, watches Nina pocket a wad of cash; he is willing to keep silent, though only if she agrees to begin a relationship with him. Slowly Bridget's plot begins to crumble, and Nina and Jackie may soon exchange their past at the Federal Reserve for a future in a Federal Penitentiary. Can a trio bold enough to outsmart government security escape the wrath of its judicial system as well? Mad Money is based upon the British television film Hot Money. Though not a blockbuster, the picture did recover its estimated $22 million budget.

Because I said so Diane Keaton stars as a unconditionally loving, but meddling, mother whose vain attempt to prevent her insecure youngest daughter from repeating the same mistakes that she made leads to a series of comic misunderstandings in director Michael Lehmann's affectionate family comedy. When it comes to the topic of motherhood, Daphne Wilder (Keaton) has seen it all. Her eldest daughter, Maggie (Lauren Graham), is a highly respected psychologist and her middle daughter, Mae (Piper Perabo), is both sexy and smart, but youngest Milly (Mandy Moore) just can't seem to get things right no matter how hard she tries. Recognizing that the romantic exploits of her charming-but-struggling youngest always seem to end in tears, concerned mother Daphne vows to find Millie the perfect man. Though she always means well, Daphne's misguided attempt to set her daughter up by placing a carefully worded personal ad proves once and for all that even the most well-intending of mothers can sometimes overstep their boundaries.

The Other End Of The Line When Granger Woodruff's (Jesse Metcalfe) credit card is denied at a dinner intended to woo a potential business client, he phones the number printed on its backside. He reaches an Indian call center, where Priya R. Sethi (Shriya Saran) answers with a flawless American accent. She works for Citci One's fraud protection services, and needs to verify a few recent purchases with Granger. As Priya scans through the caller's recent charges she becomes strangely infatuated by the American's voice, and simultaneously begins a web search to learn more about him. Despite living in Mumbai, Priya fibs that she resides in San Francisco; during the weeks that follow both play a childish game of phone tag that neither believe will result in a real-life meet up. So when Granger informs the call center employee that he's coming to San Francisco on business and would like to meet, her charade seems inevitably doomed. Zia (Tara Sharma), Priya's best friend encourages her to forget about the Anglo and move on, and she temporarily does. In the process, however, could Priya possibly forfeit her soul mate? She leaves no time to find out, boards a plane to the United States, and prepares for destiny to take its course. Aside from facing her parents later on, a more immediate problem lurks ahead. Granger only knows Priya by her generic, Americanized, call center alias: Jennifer David; subsequently he has no idea that she is Indian. How will Granger respond to not only an interracial relationship, but also her dishonesty? Even if he forgives his long distance sweetheart's transgressions, how can Priya escape a prearranged marriage back home? With her mother and father en route to the United States these questions will soon be answered. Rating: PG-13

Tristan + Isolde Tristan and Isolde is a memorable, good-looking version of the enduring Celtic legend, which has remained a quintessential love story throughout centuries of retelling. An affair between the second in line to Britain's throne and the princess of the feuding Irish spells doom for the young lovers. The English live under the iron rule of the Irish, and the young Tristan's parents are working to unite the tribes of England against their oppressors. When they are murdered by Irish infiltrators, Tristan is rescued by Lord Marke, in whose kingdom he is raised as a son. Tristan grows up to be a valiant warrior and noble knight, and when he is felled in battle he is given a king's memorial, sent to sea in a boat that washes up on Irish shores. There, Tristan is revived and healed in secret by the beautiful Princess, Isolde, who at the insistence of her handmaiden doesn't tell Tristan her real name. The two beautiful young people inevitably fall in love, but their passion is cut short when Tristan is forced to flee home to England. Tristan eventually returns to Ireland to compete on Marke's behalf in a tournament for the Princess's hand in marriage, and only when he wins does he realize his error when he learns the Princess's true identity. Thus Isolde returns as Marke's bride, and, unable to deny their passion, the lovers take up a treacherous affair behind Marke's back. As Marke's enemies begin to suspect, they devise a plan to use Tristan's betrayal to break up the tenuous alliance between the English tribes. Groundhog Day Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is a Pittsburgh news weatherman sent to the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where the famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil will either emerge, or retreat back into its burrow. Legend states that if the groundhog emerges spring will arrive early; if not, then one should expect six more weeks of winter weather. The historical accuracy of Punxsutawney Phil's forecasts are questionable at best. Connors is among the skeptics, and not exactly thrilled to travel in a severe snowstorm to Phil's distant location. Full of arrogance, he is not impressed by the town or it's people either, and tends to treat them with discontent. Rita (Andie MacDowell), the station's newscaster and their quirky cameraman, Larry (Chris Elliott) are along for the ride. The meteorologist has a crush on Rita, though his pompous attitude often disgusts her. The trio arrives and covers the day's festivities as expected. Though before they can return to Pittsburgh the snow storm intensifies, blocking all major roads and forcing them to stay the night in Punxsutawney. Naturally, Connors is unhappy and spends the remainder of the day moping at the hotel. At night he falls asleep, and wakes up to the sound of Cher and Sonny Bono's 'I Got You Babe' playing on the clock radio. That famous song would haunt him for days to come. He notices that the day's events are identical to the one before, precisely to the second. What he thought was a hallucination or bad dream, however, would occur each day: Connors was stuck in a time loop. Realizing that his actions have no consequences, since they will be erased the following day, he takes every opportunity to perform the rudest, most insane actions possible -- even suicide. Once he tires of extreme behavior, he adopts a kinder approach and discovers that optimism and good deeds are more rewarding than pessimism and unhappiness. Since its release the film has become a fixture in popular culture, and nothing has duplicated its nature quite since. With a slim budget of $14 million, the picture grossed close to $80 million in ticket sales and earned an MTV Movie Award nomination. Rating: Rated PG for some thematic elements.

Nia Vardalos stars as Genevieve, an independent single woman who owns a Brooklyn flower shop along with a strict philosophy on dating: every relationship should last no more than 5 dates so that she never gets dumped or hurt. Genevieve has had her heart broken one too many times and as a result she decided she wouldn’t allow herself to get too close to man and the only way to do so is by limiting her dates to just five with the same man. She figures no strings and no attachments. Meanwhile Greg Gatlin buys a restaurant nearby her shop. Greg is an all-round nice guy and him and Genevieve immediately start dating. Genevieve still insists that their delicious courtship is destined towards an inevitable end. However, after five dates, Genevieve is not happy with her rule and does not know how to meet Greg again. Groundhog Day

Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is a Pittsburgh news weatherman sent to the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where the famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil will either emerge, or retreat back into its burrow.

    Tristan + Isolde

Tristan and Isolde is a memorable, good-looking version of the enduring Celtic legend, which has remained a quintessential love story throughout centuries of retelling. His Future is Being Written By a Woman He Doesn’t Know One day Harold Crick began hearing the voice of a British woman narrating his every step. While Harold attempts to respond to the mysterious voice, it never acknowledges him. What at first was a suspected case of schizophrenia is actually something much more unconventional, and perhaps more difficult to diagnose, much less treat. Harold is a straight-laced auditor for the IRS. Crick has no friends and, except for his co-workers, he remains in complete solitude in his barren apartment. Harold is also quite compulsive. Each movement is synchronized to the second and carried out with extreme precision. For example, he does not simply brush his teeth until they appear clean, but he must count each stroke; if he is one or two strokes short the brushing is insufficient. Every sensory object is subjected to precise mathematical analysis. One day the lonesome auditor’s watch stopped ticking; Harold asks a passerby the time and then resets his watch appropriately. Just then, Harold hears a mysterious voice informing him that resetting his watch has initiated his imminent death. From this point forward his life is narrated in a step-by-step fashion by author Karen Eiffel, though the novelist’s identify is unknown to Crick. Frightened and confused, Crick visits a psychiatrist who suggests that he is suffering from schizophrenia; with time however, she begins to realize that Harold is not suffering from mental illness, but that an anonymous writer is actually shaping his future down to the finest details. The psychiatrist is able to connect her patient with literary theorist Professor Jules Hilbert, portrayed by award wining actor Dustin Hoffman. As Harold relates the ghostly narrator’s words to Jules, the professor searches for clues that might help him identify the author. Harold is fortunate when he overhears a television interview and recognizes Eiffel’s distinct voice. Aside from being relentlessly pestered by Eiffel, he soon discovers that each of her books end identically, and that all of her lead characters are eventually killed. The novelist has almost finished her book and has been brainstorming for days attempting to create Crick’s perfect demise. This buys him some time to perhaps find the author and alter his destiny. Will Ferell’s performance in “Stranger Than Fiction” received an Academy Award nomination. This film is rated PG-13 due to some disturbing images, sexuality, brief language, and nudity.

    Save the Last Dance

Sara Johnson is a hopeful ballet dancer aspiring to attend Juilliard School, a prestigious performing arts conservatory. After years of practice Sara lands an audition for the school and gives it her utmost effort. However rather than joy, her big night ends in tragedy and despair: Sara not only loses a great academic opportunity, but also her dear mother. Afraid of missing Sara’s pivotal performance, her mother sped recklessly to the event, crashing and subsequently dying due to fatal injuries. The accident deeply scarred Sara. In some respects she felt responsible for the death, since her mother risked loss of life just to please her daughter. Yet there is no doubt a sense of frustration as well. As the lone, successful parent of the house, the matriarch’s carelessness results in a situation far more devastating than a missed recital. No longer able to rely on her mother for inspiration, Sara forfeits dancing for good – or so she thinks. Not only did Sara lose a parent, but she also lost her comfortable suburban lifestyle. The teenager’s father, Roy Johnson, left the household years ago and relocated to a rundown apartment in the south side of Chicago. While she has no particularly harsh feelings for Roy, she is not exactly close to him either, especially since he is gone most of the time. Mr. Johnson is a lifelong, struggling jazz trumpeter who makes a living at local clubs during the evening and night; consequently he has little time to converse with his daughter. Yet a change in location is not the only burden Sarah must endure. As a white girl living in a predominately black neighborhood she finds it difficult to blend in at school. In spite of this she eventually befriends Chenille Reynolds, and more importantly her brother, Derek. Derek and Sara initially bond over a mutual love of dance, however with the boy’s help she begins to reconsider her departure from ballet and eventually starts preparing for second audition at Juilliard. It is during Derek and Sara’s practice sessions that both discover their love for one another. He supports Sara in her dream to attend Juilliard, while she encourages him to study hard and gain acceptance to Georgetown Medical School. She also learns a few things about dancing from Derek, who introduces the prude classical dancer to the more flavorful rhythms of Hip-Hop. The couple’s relationship is not without its controversy and complications. As a highly successful and intelligent black teenager Derek is a hot commodity amongst the school’s black females, who are angered that he has chosen a white girl instead of them. He must also fight against street temptations when a best friend needs his help in a neighborhood rivalry. Will he forfeit a shot at medical school to participate in a drive by? At the same time Sara must decide if she can deal with the pressures of an interracial relationship, and whether her presence is hurting Derek rather than helping him. This movie is rated PG-13 for violence, sexual content, harsh language, and brief drug references.

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton

Can a Small Town Boy Compete with a Hollywood Hunk? In a small rural West Virginian town called Fraser's Bottom, childhood friends Rosalee and Pete play a game of puppy love. They are accompanied by Rosalee’s best friend, Cathy. Together the trio is employed at a local supermarket where Pete constantly listens to the girls chatter about their heartthrob, fictional actor Tad Hamilton. Rosalee’s obsession with Hamilton drives Pete crazy, especially since he is secretly in love with her but too afraid, or perhaps unsure of how to inform her. Pete does his best to downplay the teen idol; at a viewing of Hamilton’s movie “A Good Man is Hard to Find” the girls burst into tears toward the film’s end while Pete loathes every moment, dismissing him as “not a very good actor.” On the other side of the country, in Hollywood, Hamilton and his managers attempt to calm the waters after Tad is involved in a front page, tabloid scandal. Hamilton, whose roles are generally of a ‘nice, sweet boy’ is photographed speeding down a highway, drinking, and smoking while accompanied by an anonymous female. In fear of destroying his career, Tad agrees to a publicity stunt concocted by his managers to clean up his image. His managers create a website where teenage girls can submit their names to win a date with Hamilton. Now back to West Virginia. While at work Rosalee discovers the contest while browsing the Internet and instantly, with the encouragement of Cathy submits her name. To Rosalee’s delight she discovers that she won the contest. She is whisked away in a limo where she stays in the finest hotel and enjoys an expensive dinner with her dream guy. While the win a date contest was intended only for publicity, the actor found himself strangely attracted not only to Rosalee, but to the simple life he witnessed in West Virginia. Soon he expresses his love for Rosalee and, much to his managers’ disliking, buys a home in Fraser’s Bottom to be closer to his new love. Yet Pete is adamant to win his childhood sweetheart’s affection and eventually gains the courage to profess his love to her. Does a skinny, supermarket cashier have a chance against a millionaire, handsome actor? This film is rated PG-13 for sexual content, some drug references, and language.

    Addicted To Love

Sam (Matthew Broderick) lived the perfect life in a small Pennsylvania town. That was at least until his girlfriend of many years, Linda (Kelly Preston) abruptly relocated to New York City for a teaching job. He secretly travels to New York to find Linda, though when he does he discovers her living with another man: a French chef named Anton (Tchéky Karyo). To win Linda back Sam moves into an abandoned loft directly across from the couple's apartment. As an astronomer he uses his knowledge of telescopic lenses to project the view from outside her window onto his living room wall, where he watches the couple like a silent film. By observing Anton and Linda, he believes he will gather enough information to end their relationship, and also figure out what the Frenchman's appeal is to her and how to duplicate it. A surprise visitor literally drops into the loft one day: motorcyclist Maggie (Meg Ryan), Anton's ex-girlfriend. Like Sam, she planned to set up a surveillance operation and win her boyfriend back. With Maggie’s help, the pair bug the apartment to listen to Anton and Linda’s conversations. Much to both of the stockers' chagrin, their sounds are more often the yelps and grunts of love making rather than thought provoking conversation. Maggie and Sam devise sly tricks that are intended to destroy their ex lovers' relationship, including sending a trained monkey to put lipstick on Anton's collar, and hiring children to shoot perfumed filled squirt guns at him. While spending hours alone with one another attempting to restore their broken relationships, Maggie and Sam begin to fall for each other instead. Addicted to love features music from Luscious Jackson, Los Lobos, Serge Gainsbourg and many more. Rating: Rated R for sexual content.

Divine Secrets Of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood

For seven years successful playwright Siddalee Walker (Sandra Bullock) had not spoken to her mother, a 60-something southern belle named Vivi (Ellen Burstyn). Recently, her daughter gained widespread exposure in a Time magazine interview; ordinarily a mother would be proud of such an achievement, at least if Siddalee (Sidda for short) had not claimed that an abusive childhood was her creative inspiration. While Vivi admittedly had flaws, one of them being severe alcoholism, she believed that Sidda's claims were overdramatized, and to a large extent unfair. After years of estrangement Vivi calls her daughter, only to bash the phone against a kitchen table while yelping loudly. In response Sidda does the same, while her Scottish boyfriend (Angus MacFadyen) restrains her from smashing the phone into pieces. Like it or not a war has been initiated, and the 30-year-old Louisianan turned sophisticated New Yorker is oblivious to its impending severity. As a child Vivi and her friends initiated a secret society dubbed the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, and it has remained intact decades since. After a series of mediation attempts are unsuccessful, members of the sisterhood book flights to New York, bum-rush Siddalee's apartment, and then take her by force to Louisiana. Once there, Vivi's friends reveal a scrapbook containing decades of club memorabilia, documenting each member's successes and failures. By reviewing the book the women hope to explain Vivi's trials and tribulations to Sidda, and perhaps establish that while her mother made mistakes, they were circumstantial and not deliberate. Despite their best efforts the sisterhood cannot convince Sidda to forgive her mother, forcing them to execute an emotionally daunting alternative. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood is a screen adaptation of author Rebecca Wells' identically titled novel, and a collection of short stories entitled Little Altars Everywhere. Box office returns were respectable, and the picture more than tripled its $27 million budget. Soundtrack features Lauryn Hill, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, and many other artists. Sandra Bullock's performance in the film earned her a Teen Choice Award nomination. Rating: Rated PG-13 for mature thematic elements, explicit language, and brief sensuality.

    Into the Wild

Christopher McCandless has just graduated from a prestigious university, and his family is ecstatic. He will no doubt proceed to law school, and make his middle-class parents proud once again. At least that is what one would assume. But one day without informing anyone Christopher packs his car, donates the bulk of his wealth to charity, destroys all of his identification, and embarks on a journey in search of freedom. More specifically though he desires peace and total isolation from the world's complexities. His intended destination is Alaska – the most remote location he can imagine. Soon after Christopher's trek begins though he is caught in a flash flood, which destroys his trusty yellow Datsun. True to form, he opts to abandon the automobile and the associated costs and troubles of repairing it. Yet he goes one step further, and burns what little remains of his savings. While his intentions are noble his family is a nervous wreck, wondering about their son's safety. This too is part of Christopher's plan, however, part of a bid to distance himself from mom and dad's argumentative relationship, which resulted in a turbulent upbringing. Christopher continues to crisscross throughout the southwest by hitchhiking and then later solely on foot. While doing so he connects with a plethora of interesting characters, including a farmer who employs the traveler – at least until he is arrested for stealing satellite television. He also spends time with a pair of hippies – Jan Burres and Rainey, who maintain the sixty's spirit nearly 40 years later. His travels with Jan and Rainey lead him to a California commune, where he encounters Tracy Tatro, a young lady clearly infatuated with him. The twenty-year-old bedouin's travels appear to be approaching an end though, as he heads to Los Angeles. After a short stay in the big city however he becomes disillusioned, and fears that giving up so easily without reaching Alaska would jeopardize his principles, making the entire trip fruitless, despite meeting so many fantastic people along the way. Outside of Los Angeles Christopher encounters Ron Franz, a leather worker and former military officer in his senior years. Ron adopts Christopher as his surrogate grandson, and advises him not to proceed to Alaska, assuring him that serious danger lurks ahead. Nevertheless, Christopher continues his hike to the snowy state, but promises Ron he will return. Eventually Christopher does reach Alaska, settles down in the middle of nowhere, and at least initially achieves his dreams of complete peace, isolation and a simple human existence. Trouble lurks ahead that he could never envision however, as the journey turns tragic. Into the Wild is based on the true story of Christopher McCandless, who wrote about his day to day nomadic experiences from his native Atlanta to Alaska, where he would ultimately die. The picture was a commercial success, garnering $52.2 million at the box office. Its soundtrack features the stripped down compositions of Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder, alongside other pop artists like M.C. Hammer and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

    Lars And The Real Girl

The search for true love begins outside the box A delusional young guy strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the Internet. Sometimes you find love where you'd least expect it. Just ask Lars, a sweet but quirky guy who thinks he's found the girl of his dreams in a life-sized doll named Bianca. Lars is a strange but likeable young man who manages to keep down a job but keeps mostly to himself. He only leaves the garage where he lives when his older brother Gus and loving sister-in-law Karin drag him to their house next door for dinner. Lars doesn't take well to questioning, so the disturbing level of his isolation is never openly discussed. It's only when he announces he has a girlfriend in the form of an anatomically correct doll he purchased via the Internet that everyone must admit his precarious mental state. No one quite knows how to help Lars, so they play along, careful not to do anything that might push him or Bianca (his plastic fiancée) over the edge. The results are touching efforts on the part of all those who love him to help Lars through what his psychologist assures them may be only a stage. Lars is completely content with his artificial girlfriend, but when he develops feelings for Margo, an attractive co-worker, Lars finds himself lost in a hilariously unique love triangle, hoping to somehow discover the real meaning of true love. This movie is rated PG-13 for some sex-related content.

    A Good Woman

Scandalous Seductress Or Innocent & Misunderstood? While retaining her secret identity, the illustrious Mrs. Erlynne saves Lady Windemere from making a grand social faux-pas with the scoundrelly Lord Darlington. The story begins in 1930 with a broke Mrs. Erlynne fleeing New York after destroying the marriages of several wealthy couples but Mrs. Erlynne describes herself as poor and infamous, driven from New York society by jealous wives. Mrs. Erlynne sees a news photo of wealthy Lord Windermere and his young wife: she heads for the Amalfi Coast to be among the rich and famous for 'the season' and to snare Mr. Windermere. The gold digger seeks a new target and trails just-married Robert Windermere to Italy, where he is honeymooning with his new wife Meg. Rumors spread throughout the Italian town of Robert’s infidelity when Mr. Windermere’s car is frequently seen in front of the home wrecker’s residence. Meg is blissfully innocent as she blushingly fends off attentions from a young English nobleman, an international playboy who thinks he's in love. Mrs. Erlynne is also pursued by a worldly-wise older English nobleman. Mrs. Windermere's 20th birthday party approaches, where all plays out amid numerous amoral Wildean aphorisms. In a short period of time these reports reach Meg and she retaliates against Robert by romancing her secret admirer, playboy Lord Darlington. A love triangle forms as aristocrat Lord Augustus also takes a liking to Mrs. Erlynne. However things are not what they seem as this story continues to unravel until the very last frame. This movie is rated PG-13.

Possession

Roland Michell (Aaron Eckhart) is an American literature student studying in England, ridiculed by his British peers who perceive the Yankee as academically inferior. The opposite is true however, and he is determined to prove it. Michell has conducted years of research regarding Randolph Henry Ash (Jeremy Northam), a fictional Victorian era poet. He's recently discovered a racy love letter from the author in the university's dusty archives, and has a hunch who the recipient was. Michell believes that Ash was writing to a fictitious poet named Christabel LaMotte (Jennifer Ehle), a woman historians recognize as a pioneering figure in feminism. Historians also generally agree that LaMotte was a lesbian, evidenced by her lifelong partnership with Blanche Glover (Lena Headey). If Roland's assumptions are true the narrative of LaMotte's life could be quite different, one in which the poet is a lover of men and not necessarily the rigid feminist academics have typified her as. To confirm his suspicions Roland contacts the university's authority on LaMotte, who also happens to be the poet's niece, thrice removed: Maud Bailey (Gwyneth Paltrow). Maud believes that Roland's assumption is propitious, but agrees to visit her childhood stomping grounds and search LaMotte's abandoned mansion for clues. They discover a cache of love letters inside, that confirms Michell's theory, and leads both academics down a long road of investigation. That is where Maud and Roland's own lives begin to mimic their esteemed poets'. The stern students agree from the onset that their relationship is strictly research related, though the parallels between their lives and their subjects' overwhelms them. Soon they enter LaMotte and Ash's world, reliving their sweet words letter by letter. When word of the letters spreads throughout the English department, other students begin an attempt to usurp Michell and Bailey's research, leaving little time for romantic leisure. Possession is based upon the identically titled Booker Award winning novel by author A. S. Byatt. Rating: Rated PG-13 for sexuality and some thematic elements.

    The Hoax

In what would cause a fantastic media frenzy, Clifford Irving sells his bogus biography of Howard Hughes to a premiere publishing house in the early 1970s. Clifford Irving, a struggling writer desperate to be a famous bestselling author. After his novel gets rejected, he concocts a crazy plot in which he convinces McGraw-Hill that he has been contacted by Howard Hughes in order to tell the official life story of the reclusive billionaire. With the help of his friend, nervous writer Dick Suskind, and Irving's artist wife, Edith, he attempts to get away with one of the greatest literary hoaxes of the 20th century. He goes to elaborate lengths to pull the wool over the eyes of his editor, Andrea Tate, as well as his publisher, Shelton Fisher, and the managing editor of Life magazine, Ralph Graves, who is offering big bucks to serialize the book. As Irving gets deeper and deeper into the lies, he begins to embody Hughes, mimicking the way he looks and talks. The film features excellent performances all around, including star turns by Eli Wallach as longtime Hughes employee Noah Dietrich and Julie Delpy as Nina Van Pallandt, a former flame of Irving's whom he can't shake loose. This movie is rated R for language.

    The Holiday

American Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) and English native Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) are two women from two different continents who share one common problem: men. For years Iris and coworker Jasper (Rufus Sewell) have had intermittent affairs, and while neither acknowledged any kind of formal relationship, Iris harbored romantic feelings for Jasper – and assumed the feeling was mutual. So when Jasper announced his engagement to another woman Iris was understandably heartbroken and felt betrayed. Meanwhile in the United States Amanda learns that her boyfriend, Ethan Ebbers (Edward Burns) has been unfaithful and so their relationship comes to an abrupt end. Not long afterward Iris posts a somewhat unorthodox advertisement on the Internet proposing a house swap with another professional woman, in any part of the world. Amanda, a big shot movie trailer editor, encounters the journalist's ad and decides to exchange her sunny Los Angeles mansion for a quiet and quaint home in Surrey, England. At first the relocation is a shock, but eventually she cozies up with Graham (Jude Law), Iris' brother. What was initiated as a simple one-night stand quickly transforms into romance; consequently, Amanda's upcoming return to America seems to arrive much too soon. Similarly, in California, Iris is soaking up the sun and indulging in everything LA has to offer. She eventually meets Miles (Jack Black), an associate of Ethan's still reeling over his girlfriend's infidelity. Miles' gruff and carefree attitude meshes well with Iris' personality and a romance begins to spark. Both women seem to have found what they are looking for. Unfortunately, it seems they must eventually leave their dreams behind – but must they really? The Holiday won a Teen Choice Award for Choice Chick Flick, in addition to an MTV Movie Award nomination. At the box office the picture was a knockout success, earning over $205 million around the world, easily recuperating its seemingly steep $85 million budget.
