    Eutelsat’s KabelKiosk opens to DTH

    Written by Jörn Krieger

KabelKiosk, the German direct-to-cable platform operated by Eutelsat, is to become partially available to DTH households. Service provider AllesSehen.TV GmbH will bundle selected KabelKiosk channels into two digital packages which will be marketed to satellite viewers from mid June. KabelKiosk channels were until now only available on cable networks.

AllesSehen.TV is backed by Jürgen Grobbin, former head of Eutelsat’s German agency and currently working as an entrepreneur and consultant in the media industry.

The first package, Fernsehen für mich (Television for me), will comprise German-language entertainment and music channels, including Volksmusik.tv, TV Country, Body in Balance, Your Family Entertainment, Yacht&Sail and Travel Channel. The offer will later be expanded to up to eleven channels.

US Entertain contains US entertainment channels America Unleashed and Total Hip Hop, which are being offered for the first time in Germany, along with BBC Prime, TV Country, Yacht&Sail and Body in Balance, with plans to expand the bouquet to up to seven channels.

As a third, separate offer, viewers can subscribe to sports channel Sportdigital, which offers live games from German’s national handball, basketball and volleyball leagues.

Fernsehen für mich and US Entertain will cost €9.90 per month each, while sportdigital costs €7.99 per month as a stand alone channel or €4.90 per month in connection with one of the two bouquets. For postage, activation and rent of the smartcard a one-off fee of €29.50 is payable.

The channels are on the satellite Eurobird 9A (9° East) and encrypted in Conax. The offer, which will be marketed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, will be gradually expanded to include HDTV channels, among others.
