1&1 to market Deutsche Telekom’s VDSL

German ADSL provider 1&1 will in future be able to offer its customers fibre optic (VDSL) connections via Deutsche Telekom’s network. An agreement has been reached with 1&1’s parent company United Internet, Telekom announced in Bonn.

The offer is expected to launch over the coming months. After Vodafone, 1&1 is the second Telekom competitor to market the telco’s VDSL lines. With VDSL, households in 50 cities can surf the internet with a data rate of up to 50 Mbit/s. The wholesale price per VDSL connection, which retailers have to pay to Telekom, amounts to €25.36 per month for contracts with a duration of 48 months and €26.28 per month for 12 month contracts. The contracts include a success clause: The more customers a retailer wins, the more the price drops.

Telekom is working together with partners to help shoulder the costs of the expansion of its VDSL network. Co-operations with competitors such as Vodafone, EWE, M-Net and NetAachen have been agreed in 13 cities. Negotiations are taking place with further companies.
