Football bids too low

The French Football Federation has announced that the offers made a few days ago by TF1, M6 and DTT channel Direct 8 for broadcasting rights to Les Bleus’ international matches over the 2010-2014 period are too low.

The call for bids is then considered as a failure. Talks with the candidates should start soon to conclude mutual deals.

However, networks are not willing to pay as much for rights as before: because of the economic turmoil, and because football ratings, though still high, are not massive anymore as the national team’s results have declined in the past months.
