RAI dumps Sky Italia

As anticipated, Italian public broadcaster RAI is dropping its popular RAISAT bouquet of 5 channels from pay-TV operator Sky Italia. The channels will go dark this weekend, on August 1.

RAI says it has been unable to agree transmission terms with Sky. RAI’s satellite channels will still be available on the recently-launched TivuSat free-to-view bouquet, and on digital terrestrial. Sky says it offered a 7-year deal worth €425m to the public broadcaster.

RAI’s core channels (RAI1, RAI2) stay on satellite as they are covered by a separate deal.

the matter is mediaset's pressure. There is a bad policy's situation in Italy : the trouble is that Rai is under pressure by right wing's parties, expecially by "forza italia" and his owner and premier silvio berlusconi ( no antitrust's rules in italy )... this is the reason about the lost deal. In the future we can see raisat chennels on tivusat but now they use simulcrypt ( seca1 +nagra3 ) on hotbird
