Indian DTH broadcaster Tata-Sky has topped 4m subscribers. Conditional access supplier NDS confirmed the numbers, saying the broadcaster had achieved its total in less than 3 years.
NDS says Tata-Sky (News Corp owns 20% of the business) is now the fastest growing pay-TV platform in India. 1m new subs have joined in the past 7 months.
Tata-Sky launched its DTH satellite pay-TV service in August 2006 and reached one million connections in just 11 months. Tata-Sky then took only another nine months to reach the two million connections mark and in less than three years it has reached the four million connections milestone.
Vikram Kaushik, MD & CEO, Tata-Sky Ltd, said: “Tata-Sky has achieved significant success in reaching four million connections in such a short time, and in a highly competitive market. This milestone validates Tata-Sky as the preferred service provider in the rapidly growing Indian pay-TV market.” He added: “The end-to-end digital solutions suite from NDS, coupled with our unparalleled customer service and innovative product offerings, have enabled us to provide differentiated applications and a superior viewing experience for our subscribers.”
“NDS congratulates Tata-Sky’s for reaching four million connections in less than three years,” said Sue Taylor, Senior VP and General Manager of NDS Asia Pacific. “India is among the fastest-growing DTH markets in Asia Pacific and Tata-Sky truly stands out as a leader with their innovative and exciting new services. We are proud that our market-leading solutions have played such a pivotal role in enabling Tata-Sky to achieve its impressive growth rates.”
