Spain's pay-DTT to give sector €5bn boost

The arrival of Spain's pay-DTT platform will help the audiovisual sector by adding to it some €5,000 million in a four-year period, according to the government.
Those likely to benefit most from the new digital television will be the manufacturers of decoders, conditional access equipment and TV sets with more than half of the extra revenues, some €2,600 million. Out of this figure approximately €1,400 million will go to set-top manufacturers.
At the same time the government highlighted in the case of the big distributors, the financial sector, the advertising agencies and the client services the volume of the additional business will be at €350 million in this period. The report calculates the broadcasters, telecommunications installers and managers of the signal transmission will add another aditional €1,300 million while the content producers will benefit from pay-DTT to the tune of €750 million.
All in all, the Spanish government said that the arrival of the new way of watching digital television will have an "undoubtable dynamic effect" over the electronics and the audiovisual industry and also over the whole of Spain's economy.
