Kiwis get ‘snackable’ mobile TV
Telecom New Zealand has launched its mobile TV offering, featuring content from major broadcasters TVNZ and MediaWorks, as well as the ability for users to ‘snack’ on content by skipping forward through episodes.
Users will be able to watch content either from the beginning, or skip through programming, much as with a DVD.
Telecom Mobile’s Paul Taylor said: “Unlike other mobile TV offerings, you don’t have to watch the whole episode to find out what happened at the end - you can simply skip to the last chapter. This ability to ‘snack’ on your favourite shows, also means you could watch a couple of chapters on the bus into work, and finish the episode on the way home.”
Local content including news, weather, sports and business information will be available, as well as animated, drama and comedy shows from the US including Two and a Half Men, Family Guy and The Mentalist, and movie trailers and a Kids TV section. Shows will be uploaded to the XT Mobile TV service within 12 hours of airing.
The XT Mobile TV service will be free until November 30 so that subscribers can trial the service, with pricing not due to be revealed until closer to the end of the free period.
